MH3U was a launch game though.  And yea, ports generally aren't gonna boost sales significantly.

Sales aren't going to increase until more titles are going to show up, I'd say another 6-8 weeks before sales really start to pick up again.
E3 hype will start after that, some unannounced big hits for the September - November period, price drop + new bundle -> 30mil Wii U sales by the end of the year.

I'm sure the sales will sky-rocket once SSB is announced, or released. And some other games too, like Wind Waker HD will boost up sales.

30 million by the end of 2013 is essentially impossible

Only two consoles even have a LIFETIME mark of over 30 million sales in Japan (DS and GB).

Even if the Wii U fails, Nintendo will be fine.

Smash Bros. is a long way off so they can't rely on that.

:( Even the PSV has more games than the Wii U in Japan.
That's sad.

Yeah and not that one as it stands. I have a feeling that MH:U's sales are going to be absolutely awful in the West. I'll be shocked if the Wii U gets MH4 in the West. I'm just hoping that people buy MH:U on 3DS, so the West has a chance for localization of MH4 on 3DS.

Yup. Don't see that being released anytime soon.

After the recent showings, I can understand this. Sony held a conference that showed quite a number of titles upcoming for the Vita, titles that while you and I were screaming "Monster Hunter clones", Japan laps that up like a druggie on crack. Basically put, while the western audience is still waiting for that one Vita game that makes everyone post the Fry meme, Japan definitely has all the reason they need for Vita. In fact, they probably had it ages ago, and this is why I was never concerned for the welfare of the Vita in the first place.

As for the Wii U, I don't know what kind of games Japan got, but I assume they are pretty much the same titles we got for the most part. And, for the most part, the Wii U doesn't have a game that says "We have to buy a Wii U". Nintendo Land, NSMBU and ZombiU are not the greatest sellers. That said, these results are more or less the Japanese audience gearing up for the future. These aren't a reflection of the current games available, IMO.

Trophy Cards are classy too! LOLZIGZAGOON

OUCH. Lol. I still have no intention of getting one at this point, and this doesn't change that. Nintendo should have known to have better titles at launch than New Super Mario Bros. Version 1.3.

Nsmb never sold up front.

It was laughed as a failure when it first released to sales of less than (all numbers na numbers only) 150k in its first week, which quickly dropped and remained below 100k after 4 weeks....

Except it kept selling at that same modest amount for years and years... Until it sold over 30 million units.

NSMB is a slow burn, not a quick flash. Nintendo knew exactly what they wanted when the released a nsmbu at launch...

To week 1 sales of over 250k. at 3 million consoles sold world wide, 1.5 million of them, half of all wii u owners in the world, have nsmbu. That is a higher attach than any other game in the series... and they ALL went on to sell over 20 million ltd.

Nsmbu will continue to sell slowly over the course of the systems life until it amasses another ridiculous number, like the rest of its predecessors. And the way nsmb sells, the longer its out, the more it keeps on selling, slow and steady.

Nintendo knows exactly what they are doing selling nsmbu at launch.
