I want to use an SD card for Wii U storage instead of an external HDD. Is there any way of doing this? I thought that'd be an option!

One of those.

They're available on ebay for a dollar.

No thanks, I know I've spent more on getting wired internet to my Wii U, but I was hoping that as it already had an SD card slot it'd you know? use it! Thanks for the suggestion anyway :)

Your thread title is misleading then.

What I meant was there no way the Wii U read SD cards from its own SD card slot. Because I presume the SD card slot wan't going to be worthless to the Wii U

Because the wii u formats devices and cards and hard drives as a custom format that only the wii u portion of the machine can read that the wii portion of the machine cannot read.

Also i wouldn't recommend sd cards for the wii u the way the wii u constantly writes and reads to any storage device if you use flash memory in 30 days you will have a bad sd card or worse a non functional one because of data corruption use a hard drive
