at a guess all that'll be doing is putting more load on it and producing more heat there's already a fan there so the effect will be minimal if any at all.

would be funny if this fan was doing the opposite of what the internal fan is doing thus cancelling out it's main purpose of existing.

The Wii U really doesn't need one, I played AC3 for 12 hours straight once and it was still freezing cold, I was shocked and amazed at how cool and well ventilated the system was, if I had have done that with my 360 it would have melted lmao

I'm pretty sure add-on fans for consoles are tantamount to snake oil. If anything, they make the console perform worse as the whole thing is designed around its built-in fan(s) and adding an external force that fights them will do more harm than good. If you increase the air pressure in the console it can force air around the case in a way it wasn't designed for, it can actually cause hot spots that you wouldn't otherwise get.
Its more than likely that the Wii U fan like all consoles now is temperature controlled. If it was getting remotely close to a high temperature it would increase its speed to compensate, again making an external fan utterly pointless.
The only extra fan that might be worthwhile, is if you were to replace the built-in fan with a more efficient model, as the supplied one will always be down a price/performance trade-off rather than picking the very best possible. That said, most of the Wii U noise is the disc spinning so is it really worth it?

Adding fans like that put more strain on the power supply and cause more heat.
I'd return it.

Also to add, I played LEGO City Undercover for 8 hours straight and I think the Wii U fan DID increase in speed during that time. The Wii U itself however still felt barely warm to the touch, so clearly heat is NOT an issue, as if there was any doubt the begin with.
At the end of the day, there are some laptops with chips in them creating more heat than the Wii U and their heatsinks and fans a LOT smaller. It was pretty obvious the Wii U wasn't going to have a heat problem.

the beauty of using a low clocked cpu they produce sod all heat almost like nintendo has you know hardware engineers that know what their doing or something lol.
