They said it in the Iwata asks interview with the original Ocarina of Time development team. Miyamoto originally wanted the game to be played from a first person view.

Nintendo could do with; Open world driving games, FPS (They where making one for the wii but they dropped its development which then turned into Redsteel) and survival horror games

That would certainly make it a first person game but it still wouldn't be a shooter, would it?

I agree. The name does sound like Legend of Zelda. If this is a new IP game. Hope its like Zelda and its in the future. Cause Zelda is in the past and Belda is in the future
