PS3 games costs about $120 new over there, yet Euro games don't cost €95.

Actually, they're about $80 - $90 new, here. They used to be about $110, though.

Why is everything so expensive there?

As for this... It's a lot of economy related stuff that's difficult to explain properly and nobody actually cares about. In short: Smaller population, less demand for products, prices are higher.

I expect to be less than this at actual release.

It was $599 for a Wii U when it got put up. We saw that change to $350. Plus $868 sounds like a ridiculous number for a product.

Plus being on an island probably doesn't help.

:( I was honestly hoping SONY would price it fairly, doesn't matter though, I will just have to wait a bit longer if I do decide to get one, totally understandable in my opinion though with the tech it's packing :)

I would highly doubt this would be the actual cost of the console, when the WiiU was announced, EB Australia listed it on their website for about $587 (i think) just as an estimate of what it might be.

We have known about this for weeks, Its just a set price, Its what they are assuming it will be around. Eb games has it for a similar price on their site.

Australia is a Continent not an island.

Not to mention our wages are generally higher. Its all relative, The main thing is our government tax the living Sh!t out of consumer products.

I was expecting Sony to play it safe this gen, considering how close to the edge last gen has left them. A launch at this price could doom them before the console gets affordable (Like what's happened to the ps3, suddenly it's actually popular).

Unless they release some stellar games at launch. But even then....
