Thats not 3D... That is not the Z axis... Thats just standing behind something thats in the foreground which can also be stood on. Before i even say anything else do you even know what the Z axis is... Seriously.

3D is up, down, left, right, behind and in front.

Sounds exactly like what they did in SMB3, if you're going to say 3DLand is 3D that is.

Ok let me try and teach you

The D in 2d and 3D is Dimensions.

Since you're going behind something in the foreground, you are travelling into the third dimension.

Miyamoto claims Super Mario 3D Land is a "3D Mario that plays like a 2D Mario game."

The only way it's 3D is that it's not using flat textures, and like SMB3 it has parts where you must go behind the level and then continue on with the level from there.

I'd love for Super Mario U to be a totally open world game. The sense of adventure in 3D mario games would be insane.

I'd love to see nintendo achieve it without load screens though.

1. It does play like a 2D mario game, with the point A to point B, flagpole at the end, tanooki suit,  "Miyamoto noted that old 2D Mario games didn't seem to confuse players. Goals and gameplay were more simple. The objectives - mostly squashing enemies and reaching a flag - were clearer."

2. Going infront or behind a object does not mean its 3D... You need a Z axis to go in 3D, IT HAS NO Z AXIS! There is no depth

3. i give up from now on. Tried to teach you but you are just in-denial even after i gave you a easy to understand example.

I think the first Galaxy really nailed it. A main playground with somewhat non-linear "worlds." I would like it a little more open this time around. Maybe twice the size of the Observatory at the most. Just big enough for some sidequest levels.

how does one go behind something if it has no depth?

that is not 3D. that is more simply drawing the sprite/image after drawing mario.

I honestly can't believe you are arguing about which games are 3D and which are 2D. SMB3 is a 2D game, 3D Land is a 3D game. Seriously it's so obvious, I don't even see why this is an argument in the first place. Saying that SMB3 is 3D is like saying that Skyrim is 2D because there are parts where you run side to side.

Back to the point of this topic. I found some of the earlier levels in 3D Land to have a little bit of exploration value but it was nothing compared to Sunshine. I just want to be able to run around and explore without being confined to a time limit and without simply trying to get from point A to point B. It should be more, 'while you are in this level you want to achieve these 6 things.' I would also love to see more ways to get stars (or whatever they use) in the hub world, like what they did with Sunshine but expand even further on that.
