I'm not even a pokemon fan and yet I'm keeping up with X and Y because I played up to diamond and pearl than stopped cause I lost interest. X and Y look great and I think the Fairy type is a good addition. It levels the playing field a bit.
Does the new Pokemon Fairy type really bug you?

Clearly, people like to play Pokemon for purposes beyond battling Pokemon with other people.
Pokemon games especially those at the start of a new generation tin to lack post game content meaning after beating the main story there's nothing left to do in-game, it's the wifi competitions and in-game tournaments like the battle tower that extends the replayability of the game, and without EV/IV training you won't last long.
I don't see the problem, pokemon needs more variety if they ever want to win back fans like me, who aren't into EV/IV training and nature crap.
Type advantages don't mean anything without nature EV training.

Tell that to my younger self when I played Yellow and Silver version using type advantages. Even Diamond, I played with type advantages. EV training stuff just sucks all the fun out of the game.

EV Training, Natures, etc. are only there for the competitive players. They find that kind of stuff fun and satisfying.Tell that to my younger self when I played Yellow and Silver version using type advantages. Even Diamond, I played with type advantages. EV training stuff just sucks all the fun out of the game.
I will not die until I achieve something. Even though the ordeal is high, I never give in. Therefore, I die with no regrets~Ikaruga Prologue

EV training is pretty much just about improving your pokemon's stats, whereas Pokemon-Amie can be enjoyed merely as a fun feature to interact with your pokes - it just happens to be a fun feature with (as yet largely unknown) fringe benefits. If you wanna just use it like Nintendogs and make your Sableye giggle by petting its tummy, not caring about the secondary effects, you probably can. And if you don't wanna use it at all, that's probably an option too.
But saying that EV training sucks the fun out of the game is pretty subjective - I found that learning about IVs and EVs brought a whole new dimension of fun to the games. It made me feel like a better trainer for finally being able to unlock my darling pokemon's full potential. And IV breeding...that's an art form :3
