I think it is possible for the Wii U to be priced at $299.99. Reggie did say once that Wii U would be priced competitively with PS3 and 360. Plus, that is price that will surely lure more people in and allow Nintendo to keep Wii U at that price for 2-3 years.

Not for a launch price, I really can't see that happening. Competitively yeah, indeed! But that won't happen till no one buys it o_O

If it's $250 I would be so happy for myself but I really think it will be $250,$275,$290,$299,$320, or $350, at the most.

Now I have 200 dollars.

I would have to agree on the price of 320 to 350 as it seems the most accepted range

Although I think that $299 is the most likely price, a $249 or $269 price would be better for several reasons:
  • More competitive with PS3 ($249) and 360 ($199)
  • Less of a blaring price gap with the 3DS (at $299, the 3DS would be nearly half the price)
  • Less of a blaring price gap with the Wii ($149), which Nintendo wants to keep alive for a bit more
  • More competitive with iPad ($499)
  • "Reggie Said" that the price will be competitive with the 360/PS3 and that they've learned their lesson from the $249 3DS launch price
  • Who doesn't like cheaper stuff?

Reggie has also said it is not going to priced like the Wii was, so one of his statements (which have both been said) is wrong. We will have to find out when we are told the official price :).

People are crazy if they expect the wii u to be priced lower than $300 during its launch. $350 is the lowest price you will see the wii u, and Reggie event said they won't lower it's price point for several years unlike the PS3 and Xbox 360. The original wii got its first price drop in 2010 with the super mario all star 25th anniversary bundle.

Well the current price of the Wii is $149 and Reggie has said it won't be around there- I think we all know that.

The CURRENT price of the PS3/Xbox is $249/$199, that could be down $50 at the end of the year, or including some games. I just don't see how Nintendo expect to have a successful launch of a console that is priced at $350-400 which will be competing against consoles that play the same games, barring a few Nintendo 1st party games, but cost 1/2 the price.

Wii U will not be competing with the PS360 consoles. For the love of god get that through your skull right now. We're not completely certain on the consoles capabilities, but enough points towards it being a arguably significant upgrade over the current HD consoles. The Wii U's competition isn't out yet nor are they in the public mindshare yet. No doubt Microsoft's and Sony's next consoles will be more powerful, but if your expecting truly night and day differences your going to be disappointed.

Of course it will be competing with the PS360- those are the consoles that it will be in direct competition with for at least the first ~12 months of it's life. Nearly all the 3rd party games that have been announced are PS360 ports(Darksiders II, Dirt, Batman, NG3 etc). The Dreamcast had to compete with the PS before the PS2 was released and struggled to make any inroads because of how competitively priced the PS was even though it was a great machine.

I think the price will be relative to their target market, however considering the upgrade in tech, I say the sweet spot will be $350-400 dollars. If they attempt to go higher the target market will be turned away, and the only ones to buy the console would be the hardcore fans (us). However, if they do provide an awesome launch line up and apps that are must have, they may be able to sell the console for around the $400 dollar marker. Hmm... very interesting.

I'd say if it was anything over $400 I'd just buy something else. $400 is too expensive for me, even for a gadget like Wii U.

I think they will price the system aggressively. Ideally $299, but I think it will end up being $349. It's cheap enough to get the average family who liked the wii to buy it, most likely at Christmas, along with the gamer who wants the next gen system without Nintendo losing too much/any money.

They obviously need to have worthwhile software, make sure everyone and their mother knows it's a new system, and something they "need" to have.

Edit: Missing a word

Watch the video posted on these forums about the Wii U pricing. Iwata and Reggie said the Wii U wont be cheap. $299 is cheap. $350 is middle of the line. $400+ is expensive. I keep saying the wii u will cost $349.99 but I'm starting to read articles and quotes from Nintendo and watch videos and see DIY's like IGN and it's starting to look like the Wii U is gonna be priced at $399.99 or $379.99

As much as I hate to think it, my prediction of the Wii U's initial price is $399.
