This is the official patent thread for Project Cafe/Wii 2/WiiHD/Super Wii Cube Entertainment System 64. Feel free to share your own findings and analyses below.


PATENT 1:

A video game includes a controller, a processor and display. The controller includes a special quick look button 28 that, when activated, allows a player to causes a looking movement of a character that simulates the lateral rotation of the head or upper body of a person looking sideways while walking forward.

PATENT 2:

A game apparatus includes a first LCD and a second LCD, and on the first LCD, a two-dimensional game screen including objects positioned in a two-dimensional coordinate is displayed. When a two-dimensional coordinate of a specific object out of the objects positioned in the two-dimensional coordinate satisfies a predetermined condition, a three-dimensional coordinate of each of the objects is calculated on the basis of the two-dimensional coordinate of each of the objects. The object is modeled in the calculated three-dimensional coordinate, moved by a predetermined animation, and then shot by a virtual camera. Accordingly, a game screen of an image (animation) of the three-dimensional virtual space shot by the virtual camera is displayed on the second LCD.

PATENT 3:

A home entertainment system for video games and other applications includes a main unit and handheld controllers. The handheld controllers sense their own orientation by detecting illumination emitted by emitters positioned at either side of a display. The controllers can be plugged into expansion units that customize the overall control interface for particular applications including but not limited to legacy video games.

PATENT 4:

A wireless communication game system includes a plurality of mobile game apparatuses, which function as a parent device or a child device and are capable of making a communication with each other, and broadcasts from the parent device a parent device packet including a parent device PID, a user name UserName, a game name GameName, an OC flag, an E slot, a U slot, and a payload. All the parent device packets are received from the parent device existing within a communicationable range of a user's own apparatus, and the user's own apparatus creates a parent device list, and displays the parent device list on an LCD. Therefore, a user or a player of his own apparatus looks at the game name of the parent device list, for example, and operates a cross key included in an operation key so as to select one desired parent device. Then, transmitting a child device number CID of the user's own apparatus at the E slot designated by the parent device packet, the user's own apparatus transmits a connection request to the parent device.

PATENT 5:

A game apparatus includes an LCD, and on the LCD, a touch panel is set. When a player object encounters an enemy object, a battle screen is displayed on the LCD. A player performs a sliding operation on the touch panel with a stick or the like in such a manner as to surround the enemy object and tries to obtain the enemy object. At this time, when the enemy object (affecting object) already obtained is selected, an ability (effect) equipped with the affecting object can be produced. For example, a flame according to a surrounding line is generated. When the flame hits the enemy object, the enemy object is damaged to decrease its moving speed and stop moving.

PATENT 6:

A hand-held game apparatus and a game program allow a user to play a game while going back and forth between a narrow-range map and a broad-range map. The player can manipulate a touch panel mounted on a display for displaying the broad-range map. If the player manipulates the touch panel to point to a coordinate position on the broad-range map, thus designating coordinates for a narrow-range map to display, an image of the narrow-range map, which is changed as desired, is displayed. If the player indicates a moving direction on the broad-range map, to designate a scroll direction, the displayed broad-range map is moved (scrolled).

PATENT 7:

A handheld wireless device is adapted to function as a lightweight, small, and low-cost wireless server for serving handheld wireless clients. The handheld wireless server includes a battery that powers the server, data processing circuitry, read/write memory, and a memory port for receiving an external, detachable, long term, read/write storage device. The read/write storage device stores multiple dynamic server applications for execution by the data processing circuitry and multiple dynamic client applications for download to handheld wireless client devices. Wireless communications circuitry broadcasts initial information and detects communications from handheld wireless client devices including requests to download one of the client applications stored on the long term storage device. The data processing circuitry processes, in parallel, multiple download requests for client applications from multiple handheld client devices, retrieves the client applications from the long term storage device, and provides the client applications wirelessly to the multiple handheld client devices. An example application for traveler in a travel environment is described.

PATENT 8:

Example methods and systems for inviting users to play video games involve receiving at an invitation server an invitation from a first user logged into the invitation server using a first game system that invites a second user logged into the invitation server using a second game system to play a game. The invitation is forwarded from the invitation server to the second user and an acceptance of the invitation from the second user is received at the invitation server. Invitation acceptance data indicative of the second user's acceptance is stored at the invitation server after the second user logs out of the invitation server. When the second user subsequently logs back into the invitation server, one or both of the first and second users is sent information based on the stored invitation acceptance that enables the first and second users to play the game.

I think you pretty much found all of them, CaptainFalco311. :P Some of those might be for the 3DS. I searched through a ton of FCC filings today, since that's where our first glimpse of the 3DS came from, but sadly, I came up with nothing.

EDIT: I examined the patents a little more closely, and the first one isn't assigned to Nintendo. It belongs to a company called Brain Box Concepts, Inc. (which I can't find any information on). So that one's probably out. I actually remember finding it myself a couple of weeks ago and thinking I had found the Wii 2 controller, but then read the assignee name and slapped myself. :P
