It's not good to download it. I am getting the physical copy so I can gently cradle it in my hands.

Tying the content to the console prevents game-sharing which is a problem on the consoles that have more liberal account systems and allow games to be re-downloaded infinitely on any number of consoles.  Nintendo's system has its own issues but it's not "broken."

Yes it is broken. Also game sharing is not the big issue you make it out to be. In order to play the game on an Xbox 360 you need to use the same account you downloaded it with. As far as the Playstation is concerned Sony have addressed that with limiting the number of consoles that can be tied to one account. Both companies have been using the system for years without any adverse problems or issues. Nintendo needs to get with the program and come out of the "dark ages" with their antiquated system. I really wanted to but the new Zelda Wind Waker Wii U but no I can't as I cannot transfer my content from my current Wii U to that one which is ridiculous. What if my console broke and more importantly was out of warranty I couldn't just buy a replacement and transfer the content over. That just isn't right.

Right, so anyone can buy a bunch of old Xbox 360's, add their gamertag to them, download all of their Xbox Live games, then remove their gamertag from the console and all the games are still there and can be used.  They can then sell the console and in effect pirate the games by making money off of illegal copies.  Sony's policy is better but still allows for it to a more limited extent.

It's not that I don't see your point.  I do think it's extremely inconvenient not to have games tied to accounts for the reasons you've listed (though I think it is possible for Nintendo to transfer the content between the two Wii U's).

No you can't do that with the 360. If you download the games on a different console then your account would have to be kept on there and you would need to connect to the Internet so they can be authenticated and to determine whether they are being later on another 360 with the same account. Sony limits the number of devices that can connect to the same account. Regardless your missing the point entirely. Nintendo being able to transfer games only works if your Wii is broken and send it in to them. The problem is you would have to pay for the shipping both ways if its not under warranty. Also if you upgrade to a newer model like in my example they wouldn't do it anyway. Its just not practical. Digital content should not be tied to the console but to the account that was used to download it. You may not care about this but judging by posts in these forums and others you're in the minority. Most people out there would agree with me. Its beyond ridiculous to have such an archaic system and just shows that Nintendo can't change with the times and doesn't care about there customers.

When my Xbox broke and I bought a new one I downloaded all the games on to the new console. The old console was out of warranty. However once I did that I had to connect to the Internet to play my games. I had to transfer all the licences to the new console after which those game would have been unplayable on the old console. Because the games were tied to the account all I had to do was download the games and transfer the licenses. If it were a Nintendo console I would have had to send it in, and either purchase a new console from theme or buy one and send that too all at my own expense if not under warranty. Not to mention it would have taken longer. This is the reason why I refuse to purchase digital content on my Wii U or 3DS with a couple of exceptions. This means Nintendo is losing sales from as well as likely other customers.
