Sega of America has confirmed to GamesBeat that they have laid off a number of employees. The exact number of people laid off were not given, however it is known that it was a small team.
"As the gaming industry continues to evolve, companies must adapt and adjust in order to compete and succeed in an ever-changing environment," said a Sega spokeswoman. "As a result of this, Sega of America has recently undergone a restructure that will enable the company to focus efficiently on developing new and existing content across digital platforms as well as continuing to focus on key brands for packaged goods."
Sega has been struggling the last year as it closed five European offices and closed its Australian offices. Sega has been restructuring its Western businesses since last year.
Ouch. This is not good.
