Maybe now people will stop confusing it with Wii U.

It`s doing it to make room for the Wii Mini! :D

Jokes aside, it was bound to happen sooner than later. Wii fell too hard in the last couple of years to remain relevant.

Theoretically this would allow Nintendo to make room for the Wii Mini, which can be released internationally with a new price lower than the original CAN$100 (Maybe even less than $80).

Not that I'm aware of. This is the first time I'm hearing about it.

I don't think Nintendo even discontinued the Wii due to a lack of demand or anything. Just to get more attention for the Wii U. If the Wii U was doing good at this moment, the Wii would probably still be in production for another few years at most. I don't think Nintendo's gonna release the Wii Mini either, wouldn't be good for the consumers that can't tell a Wii U from a Wii.
