And we all thought they were broke....

They are responding to the length of time and how things have now changed (probably higher development costs) since PS4 and Xbone released by spending $78 million on two new research and development labs in Japan.

If it means they give us a proper Resident Evil, new Street Fighter and Monster Hunter games by going back to their roots and give us high quality 3rd party games then I'm all for it.

Still think Nintendo should buy the MH franchise if they get the chance.

$78m is nothing for such a big company.

Capcom used the term "next generation consoles" instead of what you and gamespot wrote.
How interesting...

Except that when last reported  in 2013 they had a 150 Million left from the 700 they had in 2010. So yes it's a massive amount.

Hate to break this too you. But these new buildings ARE NOT For ps4/Xbone

' the popularity of social games
due to the widespread use of smartphones
is enabling games to reach more user
segments and enlarging the entire game
market.'

' more powerful development
capabilities in the rapidly growing mobile
content and PC online games markets.'

They are blowing another huge wad of cash they dont have on mobile and social games, trying to 'monetize and retain virility in consumer whales'.

This is another attempt at cashing in on mobile crap. Not going back to real games.

"The appearance of next-generation consoles with a variety of network functions has shifted the focus of sales from conventional package software to digitally distributed content,"
Capcom said.
"The profit structure and business model are changing at an increasing speed as a result. Furthermore, the popularity of social games due to the widespread use of smartphones is enabling games to reach more user segments and enlarging the entire game market."

A massive company like Capcom has a large market cap and therefore has a huge amount of access to investment capitol and creditors.

Yeah, they are going to offer their mobile/social games as downloadable software on multiple platforms, like ps4/xbone.

Unless you think switching to the mobile business model and expanding it means something other than switching to the mobile business model and expanding it.

They were at their best in the 90's and were so damn good they could have had their own console and sold it at a profit on 1st party games alone.

Nollog's first post does have a point, I mean Gamespot were the ones who specifically mention PS4/Xbone while Capcom state "next gen consoles" and the mobile market.

Does that mean Capcom were referring to Wii U also? We have had 3 Capcom games so far on Wii U so we might see some more exclusives and multiplats from them.

OR is Capcom spending this amount to focus on the generation after this one? Damn it.

Let's hope it does include wii u. I think a street fighter game would sell pretty wellon the u.

It's a safer bet this is porting mobile games to PSN/XBL to help capcom get back on their feet maybe. Capcom has stated they don;t even have the resources to make a SF game for PS4/XBO. Dead Rising 3 almost never happened. MS had to pay because Capcom could not.

A bit late for capcom to do this. Prob won't see results for a couple of years.

They'll continue to fade in the meantime and will require a couple of immediate successes once their new games hit.

Mega man, street fighter, and dragons dogma should definitely make comebacks in all new versions, along with a new model that doesn't consist of reselling the same games over and over with minor tweaks.

They really need to upgrades their gfx and audio tech. Beyond that, it seems they need some seriously fresh creative direction.

Good news even if it comes late.
