Now now, before you all go "OH SHIZ HE'S RETIRING! WE ARE ALL DOOOOOOOMMMMEEEDD!!!!"

http://www.wired.com...moto-interview/

This article merely means that he is stepping down from his position, to a smaller unit within the company. He wishes to work on smaller projects at this point, things he can do in a year without rushing.

Of course, we should probably wait until this source is produced the same elsewhere.

What do you think about this? For the better or the worse?

First minute back on the forum, and I see this intense piece of news O.o
But I don't think it's really a loss or anything. He'll still be working on games, and games are a group effort, not entirely run by one person.

Uh...I think it isn't that big of a deal. I mean, he's still within the company. He just wants to work on some other projects. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm interested in seeing what happens with this. For one, I want to see how these smaller projects turn out. Also, I would like to see how some of the bigger projects progress without Miyamoto.

This isnt such a big deal. I mean, I think the people who worked with Miyamoto have enough experience. They know what to make for a Mario or Zelda game.

Plus, might be cool to see his own projects.

So this news doesn't even faze you guys?

This is possibly the biggest piece of news for Nintendo ever.

Let's just put it this way... Jack Tretton just shat his pants.

Miyamoto is famous for what he did, not quite what he does. He created Mario, Zelda, Pikmin and a ton of other famous franchises... But he's not integral to the creation of each new one.

Hiroshi Yamauchi stepping down to Iwata - now THAT was big news. Yamauchi essentially made Nintendo into what it was, with his stereotypical supernaturally-wise Japanese Business man skillz.

I find it a little sad, but I can imagine his reasons. As long as he's still there, it isn't that much of a difference ;)

That seems rather odd, I remember hearing he wanted to head the Next Zelda for the WiiU but honestly I'm not that sad to see he's not overseeing everything on the AAA side of Nintendo games. I'm sure Eiji Aounuma and the rest of them will make sure Zelda is still a master piece and the Mario group has been fantastic so I doubt they'll mess up if Miyamoto believes they don't need him anymore. I'm sure he wouldn't just step down if he didn't think his teams could handle it without him anymore and I'm now even more interested in how Different Mario and Zelda Will be without Mr. Miyamoto. Maybe the newest entries will both show and even greater emphasis on story. Anyways I'm sure his little doo-dad games on the Eshop will be fantastic and I think Miyamoto deserves a break.

He's helped bring us classics for many years I think it's high time he deserved a rest from big budget titles, so good luck on the small side Miyamoto I'll be sure to look into the interesting games you make.

Considering that he hasn't been too deeply involved in the development of any of the more recent installments of Nintendo's big franchises, I don't see this as much of a problem. He's mainly served the role of a supervisor, making a few suggestions here and there. He could quite easily still serve that role while focusing on smaller titles. I'm certainly looking forward to what he'll be coming up with from this new position. After all, Mario and Zelda were once small franchises themselves. :)

Guys, more news.
I don't think this is a case where IGN is ignorant either:
http://au.wii.ign.co.../1214255p1.html

Apparently, what Wired had put up earlier was fake.
I mean, before you jump to the meme, I've never even heard of Wired before today. Makes me think this was an attention seeking act, or at best a misunderstanding.

The only stable thing between the two is that Shiggy does want the younger crowd to shine.

i think this is actually very good because this way with him doing smaller projects at the time may make it so new IP's are created from the inspiration of younger or newer workers because now they may feel a little leverage on their creation of ideas without miyamoto handed out ideas like hot cakes lol

Meme? What meme? I want to know! haha

Anyway, yeah Miyamoto isnt stepping down, he's just going to be less involved with big franchise games and be more focused on helping/ mentoring younger developers and work on smaller things with them.

Well if he is just stepping down and not completely leaving the company, it can not be all bad.

Although it is going to be pretty weird with him not running everything.
