The ASA recently began protecting the rights of digital games consumers. North America needs this yesterday.

As one of their first cases, its SURPRISE EA, and its filthy dungeon keepers 'remake', and the straight bold faced lying BS bait and switch ad campaign.

http://www.asa.org.u...ADJ_258907.aspx

'The ad must not appear again in its current
form. We told Electronic Arts Ltd to ensure that
future ads made clear the limitations of free
gameplay and role of in-app purchasing with
regard to speeding up gameplay. '

Suck it EA. Suck it long, suck it hard, and burn in hell you studio murdering arseclowns.

Especially YOU Peter Moore, with your oh so timely strawman BS about how the filth you pedal is 'just fine' and core gamers are just luddites who cant move on.

I'm glad to see the forums can continue to maintain the same level of maturity I've come to expect over the past couple of years.

I actually really don't care what reference you were attempting to make, nor am I 'mad' about it.

But whatever floats your boat.

I heard they were pushing for something like this. Glad to see it's going well.

I wonder what'll happen to EA if they can't prey on the ignorant anymore...

America didn't have consumer rights before this ?
Seems like an oversight to allow companies to lie to people in advertisements.

For digital content, America still doesnt. In fact, with the exception of the uk thanks to ASA's recent inclusion. NO ONE DOES.

The asa is UK, and they just started a program to regulate the rampant ripoff artists of digital content, and nailed EA's bold faced lying adverts for dungeon keeper red handed:

'GET DUNGEON KEEPER ON MOBILE FOR FREE! ... DIG. DEVISE. DOMINATE. Build the most badass dungeon ever! Raise an army of diabolical minions and lay twisted traps to destroy any opponents foolish enough to set foot in your lair. MASTER THE HAND OF EVIL Cast powerful spells, pillage and plunder other players’ dungeons, and slap your imps around to make them work harder. A world of wicked fun is right at your fingertips. What are you waiting for, Keeper? Get it for FREE'

EA is no longer allowed to legally use this advertisement its been using for dungeon keeper mobile in the UK, because it is a lie.

It is still able to lie to the rest of the world with this ad, because advertisements for, and digital content has no consumer protection against illegal practices for the rest of the world.

As you can plainly see, this puts peter moores recent talk about 'the new world of gaming' and the 'new gamers' in blatantly transparant perspective.

The future of gaming isnt moving towards this business model, with the core gamers just being a bunch of luddites who dont understand that high quality, high content products that you actually own when you buy, and actually work when you pay for them just arent something these 'hip young gamers want' and its now 'time to move on'. EA is voraciously doing everything in its power to herd it into this unregulated territory where it can abuse this newfound wealth of ignorant and uninformed consumers with impunity.
