It's the only name that will continue the Wii legacy (outstanding sales) so it seems fair that Nintendo leaves it that way.

Besides, it is the perfect way to continue the Wii family and finally correcting its mistakes with the Wii U. At first I hated it but now, I kinda like the name
If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?

The name has grown on me. Like many I had a negative reaction to 'Wii U', but now I think it's got to be one of the most intriguing names for a console ever.

While not entirely creative, I have no problem with the name - and it's easy to remember.

I believe it's a very creative name. During the 2011 E3 conference Reggie Fils-Aime mentioned that the 'U' in Wii U could mean anything.
It can mean, Universal, Unique, U (as in 'you'), Utopia, anything! Basically the meaning of 'U' is totally up to the person interpreting it.

Now there has been alot of speculation as to whether Wii U is the official name of the new console, or if it's a placeholder, like Revolution, or Dolphin.

I belive it's a place holder, but for one main reason:http://www.WiiU.com

If you go there, You will find that Nintendo doesn't own the domain name, it's not even a fan site lik Wii U Blog, or Wii U Go.

After doing some reaserch, I found that this is the only console name, other than Nes.com(more on that in a minute), that doesn't link to Nintendo's website in some form or fashon. If you were to go to: http://Wii.com, or http://N64.com It will send you to nintendo's website. If you go to http://gamecube.com, it sends you to the where to buy page from Nintendo's Website. And if you go to http://snes.com, it sends you to the Virtual Console page from Nintendo's website.

The reason nes.com doesn't send you to Nintendo's website, is because it's owned by the New England Sports Center.

So yeah, My beliefe on why Wii U isn't the official name for the new system. But those are just my thoughts though, what do you guys think?

EDIT:Oh, and one other thing is the whole 3DS debacle. Many thought the 3DS was just another DS, and many more thought that Wii U was just an add on for the Wii. There's another reason as to why I think they'll change the name.

I was thinking that since E3 2011. It would be nice if it had a better name, but who knows?

I wouldn't mind if the name was 'Wii U'. Changing the name would do nothing but cause further confusion in my opinion.
But I guess it would work assuming it recieves a catchy name that gets accepted in the long-term like the how the Nintendo Revolution became the Nintendo Wii.

Oh, one other thing, and I'll edit this into my first post, is the whole 3DS debacle. Many thought the 3DS was just another DS, and many more thought that Wii U was just an add on for the Wii. There's another reason as to why I think they'll change the name.

As for my thoughts on the name itself, I can see why people hate it, and I can see why people like it. But one thing is for sure, everyone is going to know when the Wii U is coming down the block.(Man it's loud.)

I'm sure it'll still be called Wii U. And the Wii U controller will be called: Wii U controller. :P

Since the final form of Wii U will be revealed at E3, It's safe to assume that if they were changing the name, it would happen then too. It's not unusual for it to happen, Both Gamecube and Wii had thier names changed at E3 the year of their release.

Oh, another reason I think it's going to change.

No matter how false it is, the Wii name is associated to shovelware and casual games by the hardcore. I agree that if Nintendo wants to gain back the hardcore they should get as far away from the Wii branding as possible.

wow very interesting bit of research, well done, actually until i read that i never ever considered that them changing the name was even slightly possible, i was convinced wii u was final, but now i think there is a chance it will change, but i still think it will probably stay wii u

I agree, something about this name seems final. I know they changed the names of their last three home consoles, but this one is different somehow.

I just don't think it's final, I know alot of people do, but somthing just doesn't ring a bell for me. Maybe it's the whole 3DS thing, or the fact that other gamers still see the word Wii as casual, but I'm just not getting the vibe like I did when they announced the Wii, or the Gamecube names.

Edit: Oh, and I remember Reggie saying that the people buying the Wii U will not be the same as the people who bought the Wii, so why would the Wii Brand name matter?

Nobody liked the name Wii at first but the got used to it. Same thing will happen again.

Personally I dont mind it, but I would have prefered it being called the Nintendo Stream.
[E3 2012] Nintendo gets it's throne back.
