This is why the 16 bit war was so damn competitive and great. TurboGrafx16 vs Genesis vs SNES.
Did they have a few multi plats. Of course, however things were very different. If you really liked arcade ports, action games and sports. Genesis was the way to go. You wanted a bunch of hidden oddball gems you wnt Turbografx. You wanted platformers and RPGs like FInal Fantasy. SNES.
Each system was truly loaded with 3rd party exclusives. Of course you had first part franchises with Bonk,Phantasy Sar,Sonic,Mario Earthbound etc.. Thing is 3rd party was pretty strong in some way on all of them. TG16 had Falcom so you had Ys,Xanadu,Castlvania Rhondo of Blood and more. Sure Sparkster was on both Genesis and SNES but Rocket Knight was only on Genesis. Genesis and SNES each had a very different version of Aladdin. They were not the same game and both were excellent. SNES says we have Actraiser and Genesis says we have MUSHA. Highly sought after games on each while very different.
Today it's this rainbow. Do I buy 40th sequel to AAA game on platform A or platform B. Ok so platform B has the game for 6 months before platform A. Only true exclusives are 1st party.
Nintendo is still in the mindset that when we pay for a 3rd party game to be on our console we mean it. Bayonetta 2,Lego City,Devils Third,The Wonderful 101 are on Wii U period. They own half of Fatal Frame. Nintendo spends still but at least it stays. We will never be back at 16 bit era where 3rd parties made exclusives left and right without being paid for it. That era is gone but sad that it is. Made things more competitive and competition is good. Otherwise it's stale.
