To help other users get a better idea of who you are, I've added three new fields to everyone's profiles: gender, fandom, and caption. Gender's pretty self-explanatory, though filling it in is optional - you can choose "Would rather not say" if you want.

Fandom gives you the chance to tell other people what, well, you're a fan of! I, for instance, am a devoted fan of Yoshi and Mario. It may make it feel a little more personal, when you know what other people are into just by looking under their avatars on their posts.

Lastly, the caption is a short message you can set which will simply be displayed with your posts. You can put pretty much anything you want here, as long as its appropriate - just have some fun with it!

You can set all three of these fields in your user control panel right now, if you want to give them a shot. If you leave one blank, it simply won't be displayed; it's as simple as that.

What do you guys think of these fields? And are there any others you think I should add?

I'm fine with these fields.
Maybe another one for Genre, though?

BTW, How do you break something that doesn't exist, anyway?(Rules)

Genre? As in, what genres of games you like? Eh...I think that'll be a bit too specific, and will probably only add clutter to your "mini-profile" (that's what the space under your avatar beside your posts is called).

Lol, I'm just having a little fun with my caption, that's all. That's sorta the point of them. But rules will officially be added to the forums in due time, no worries.

Hmm, if I were you, I'd change the fandom one to 'Favourite series'.

Could it be added into the 'not-mini' profile, then?
You can tell a lot about a person by what type of games they play... Sortof.

You still haven't answered the question, though ;)

Don't do what isn't allowed on most forums, like flaming, 18+ content...

Eh, "fandom" is shorter.

I was about to point out that "favourite series" was too specific, but then I remembered this was a gaming forum. ;) Haha, my stupid nonexistent brain is at it again.

I was stuck as to which gender symbol means what, could ya change it to the words male or female so no one chooses wrong. ;)

Hello, I am Roy.

Aw, the gender symbols look much nicer. Personally, I'd rather keep them. It's not too hard to run a Google search for "gender symbols" and find out if you're confused; it'll literally take four seconds. But it it's really a problem, I'll change it.

Most people know the symbols, but I can't deny they are kinda, well, hard to see. This forum runs on PHPBB, and I know PHPBB has some really neat gender symbols, why not use those?

phpBB doesn't have any built-in gender symbols that I know of.....are you confusing it with vBulletin, perhaps?

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I've seen them on phpBB forums...

Edit:
Maybe make the fields bold, and the text itself black?

I could always try modding the field to display images of the gender symbols. I'll look into that, if you like.

On a side note, if this forum is successful enough, I may upgrade it to vBulletin, which I'm quite sure has native support for genders.

Well, symbols are more... how should I say... international. Of course those who'd post here would necessarily understand English, but...
...
I'll BRB, looking for a way to rephrase that to my advantage. XD

All jokes aside, I agree with Peter. Gender symbols make less text under the avvies, no matter how small the difference is.
