I would like a Sonic game provided that it was actually fun and I could play as Tails and Knuckles. I find the new Sonic games to be too constricted. I want a large area to run around and explore. I also don't want a bunch of 2D in my 3D. I also always preferred playing as Tails over being Sonic. I like the ability to fly.

This could be a hub world. I always loved hub worlds, even more than the action stages. They can make the hub world HUGE as sonic has become way faster than the Adventure Era(SA1,SA2,Sonic Heroes, etc.), and it would take 2 seconds for 0913256890132750931275091327509127501.5 km then the action stages can be like the Unleashed Era(Unleashed, Colors, Generations)

Like what Squish said, It'd be nice if we could play with a character OTHER THAN SONIC
I mean I know he is the main character but let Tails and Knuckles have their time to shine. They are just overshadowed by Sonic and Shadow(Get the joke) even more than Luigi is getting overshadowed by Mario.

As a sonic fan in general and in particular a fan of the direction that the series is going I think this is good so long as they really delve into the story and into the characters. In particular I think that they need to show an awareness of the core story aspect of coolness, and something of a quest for a lost childhood that is lightly touched upon in other games.

I really like the dreamcast sonics way better. Free roaming is way more fun
than go-this-way-really-fast. For characters;

Sonic
Tails
Knuckles
Shadow
Silver
Amy
Metal Sonic

Maybe a new character? I haven't seen one since sonic & the secret rings,
and we all know those ones will not appear again.

That looks a bit too realistic but graphic whise yeah it's awesome and the Wii U could and SHOULD be able to pull that off. Anyways, I saw an interesting idea on the web:

Well, I sure would hope that a Sonic level wouldn't look like that. I would prefer some color, this is Sonic after all, not CoD
Joking aside, if the levels are full of colorful as normal, it will be a beautiful game, perhaps more than Colors which I personally thought was the best looking Sonic game ever made. Probably one of the best games in a while before Generations came out
Can't wait to see a Sonic game for Wiiu, hopefully the gimmick is minimal like in Colors.

Those pictures should be for a 3DS game.
The Wii U Sonic game would immediately get my attention if:
a. It consisted entirely of 3D Colors-like gameplay. That means no 2D section crap.
b. It was open-world and free-roaming like the Dreamcast games.
c. It had a Chao Garden.
