My biggest concern with the Wii U is if it will accept my downloaded virtual console games and saves. They don't let you transfer entire games on the SD card. I downloaded around 10 VC games and some WiiWare games and transferring with an HDD or SD card hasn't been mentioned. So I started thinking and came up with this idea.

Each Wii is tied to one friend code. When you buy a Wii U and start it up for the first time it will ask if you want to link it to a Wii friend code? You type in the friend code one time only and voila! Nintendo can track the purchases you made before and will allow you to redownload all of them onto the Wii U at no extra cost. Nintendo tracks your friend code internally so they know what you bought. It would work the same way as the connectivity of the PSStore between the PS3 and PSV.

At first I thought you should connect the friend code to a Wii U account, but then I realized, that would screw over any second or third users on your Wii U as only the first account would have access to all the previously downloaded software. So tying one Wii console to one Wii U console in the general settings allows all account users to have access to all the previously downloaded software from the Wii.

Thoughts?

Do you think Nintendo will do a system like this? Or will they just make some kind of file transfer app?

IIRC The Wii doesn't have one friend code per system. It has multiple friend codes depending on the game. I thought that was one reason people liked the 3DS because it only has one per system. I could be wrong though.

Woe is I, who haft been unprepared. I hath entered a sanctuary of forbidden to the eyes of men.

My eyes shall burn with the images of that which I had seen. Far beyond my comprehension, a ritual. I hath seen them dance and sing.

For they danced and sang with a passion no longer held by my kind. And when such ritual hath concluded I was awakened to the meaning of it all.

I was enlightened to passion of the other kind. finally, I sayth to myself.

"Mine being hath been prepared"

This gets asked at least once a month.

Saves: SD card.
Purchases: Nintendo Network either via a Wii Shop update, Wii app ala DSi, or stream-lined transfer based on Club Nintendo account (as hinted to by an investor).

Also, your idea is flawed in that I could visit Reggie's daughter, turn on her Wii and write down her friendcode, allowing me access to all her (free) games.
So you'd need a transfer application on the Wii to make sure it's you, and not someone who just knows your friendcode.

Well there is only one Friend Code for the SYSTEM. You need games to get other friend codes so this would work I guess.

If this happens, you could get friend codes that aren't yours and use them.
There should be more to it to get the Virtual Console games and the WiiWare games.

Wait, so you'd rather visit Reggie's daughter's Wii rather then Reggie's Wii? That doesn't make sense.

i think it'll just be something todoo with an SD card, but the Wii doesn't come with an SD card, so it'd make sense to have some other feature for those without :/

I bought a good few.
I wasn't able to transfer them because I bought a US DSi and I got a EU 3DS since I'm European.

All I can think of is SD Card. Or somehow Nintendo allows you to transfer it online.

Put really?
You'd have to have both your Wii and Wii U plugged in, with at least a television and your upad.
It doesn't seem a good route for them to take imo.

No I think he means the Wii message board code that is unique to each console. I think Mac address could be used as well to transfer Wii vc games like said in original post.

Well, I hope this gets answered soon. Maybe it'll be answered at E3. I'd be pretty upset if I couldn't transfer the games, considering that I have $200+ in games on there.

They won't. I'm 99.999% sure that Nintendo won't let you transfer any of your downloaded software to the Wii U.

I hope I'm wrong.
