Microsoft Makes Its Own Vitality Sensor For Kinect Play Fit

Microsoft is preparing to reveal a peripheral not unlike the Wii Vitality Sensor for Xbox 360. The device will be used to accompany the currently announced Kinect Play Fit service and is codenamed Joule. The Joule heart-rate monitor will let Kinect owners track their heart rate wirelessly. Microsoft is gearing up to show off the device during its E3 press conference on Monday June 4th.

Now we know more Kinect at this years E3. I seriously thought Sony would do something like it first.

I am kinda happy Nintendo never did this, just because I knew it would be used in a fitness game. I would like to see this used in some sort of Horror game though.

Will it be part of the conference, if so than I hope they don't spend much time talking about it on a fitness game.

Yeah, you've done a great job so far, letting the Metal Heads destroy the palace.

The Wii U can track your heart rate by just holding the Wii U Controller. <--- not an actual fact.

Nintendo wanted to hold Vitality Sensor until it could be reliable with 98% of subjects.
I wonder if Microsoft care about it working for most people or did they just want to be first to market?

I wish Nintendo had more lawyers.

Pfffft, Microsoft doesn't care what you do on their system, just as long as it's on their system.

Man i was hoping nintendo found a way to put the vitality sensors into the grip of the wii u controller and the circle pads. but i guess they have given up working on the idea altogether.

Well, it's not exactly the most versatile idea. It's kinda hard to implement this in most genres.

It can obviously be used in fitness style games.
In horror games, the rate at which your heart pumps can determine the level of how things can scare you.
I suppose it could be used in multiplayer shooters. Heart pumps can affect how fast you can generally maneuver. Of course, that could be rigged.
Possibly for a sniper fight in a campaign using heartbeat sensor equipment. lol

It's certainly an interesting idea, but a limited one, unless devs have really, really interesting ways to use it.

That's what most of us are hoping for.
