Earlier tonight, a YouTube member (verymetal7) have informed Gguru1's clip about an article on IGN's website about a new controller design for Nintendo's brand new console... Wii U. Rumor has it that they're gonna replace circle pads with more traditional analog thumbsticks including analog ZL and ZR triggers. You may not have to worry about buttons anymore, but please don't take my word for it. Here's the link--

As has been stated over 9,000 times already on this site alone, this is an old patent. This was likely filed back during the Project Cafe days (if not before then).

That's what I figured, otherwise why would IGN dedicate an article to it.

There is no grip to hold the controller and the face buttons are right below the right analog stick? How will that work for a third person uncharted-like game? Like, when you need to use the face buttons, you will need to move your entire hand and slide it down to reach? Whereas the PS3 controller or 360 controller you just need to move your thumb. This wii u design is the best http://www.megapirat...r-featured.html it just needed triggers. They need to be offset.
And yes, this is an old patent filed in october but published now.

Nice and all but the shape for this patent looks really bad.
Keep the shape from E3 2011 and I will be happy.

I looks less appealing in general shape now.

lolwut.
An actual serious post from Megadriven Coffee.

Remember guys, this is a PATENT. It's not supposed to show how it's going to look exactly. It's just to give a general idea as to what the device is.

Very true.
It's just a concept sketch.

I am pretty sure this is the old patent, and as to why they would? Because they're a news blog that pretty much cares about hits and storieslike this patent which has been on this forum for a while is news to them. Pretty much most news sites do it but IGN pretty much takes it further.

Do you happen to have any proof of that?

The patent is from this document. The document was published a couple of days ago, but as numerous people already have pointed out, the patent itself is likely an old one. Analog sticks are still a possibility though.

EDIT: Document was filed by Nintendo October 2011, which of course was after the Wii U's first reveal. So I guess...?

It's just a plan B. If they would ever change it, they patented it so nobody can steal it.

The patent is new but the image is old from 2011.

The version of the analog controller in action was never shown to public but it was designed at first.
