Here's the article
Here's the document/presentation

I'm not much of a computer person but it looks like it will have a 3.2 ghz processor with 4 cores. I know the 360 had 3.2 ghz as well.

Theres a part that says XBox 720 (6x performance). So I'm assuming this means it will be 6 times as powerful as the 360.

It also says that the 720 will be $299.

Their primary focus however is to try and make the 720 the "Only box you'll need in the living room"

If all of this is true it looks like the 720 and Wii U will be similar in power and hopefully the 2 primary consoles this generation, leaving the PS4 out. I think this is a good sign showing us as both Wii U and 720 will get all the 3rd party support, but Nintendo has the better first party games so we can beat Xbox head on.

What are you thoughts? Looks legit to me, how about you?

So it has the same GHZ processor, but it's supposed to be six times stronger?

...I may not be a tech nerd, but isn't that...well...impossible? o_o

Not exactly. I believe it has more cores now than the 360. And it's mostly about the graphics card. But I don't understand graphics cars that well so I'm not sure what this one can do. 3.2 processor is pretty good. Just shows they're not going all out.

blue ray now supposedly. But how often do you watch DVDs now anyway?

Oooh, alright. In any case though, I'll probably wind up skipping the Xbox 720. Never cared for most of the 360's exclusives, and the ones that I do care for, I can get on PC with much better graphics and much better handling gameplay. It'll probably be the PS4 and Wii U for me next gen.

yeah I'll probably do Wii U and PC combo for the next however many years. I'm not too find off the other consoles exclusives. The big thing though is it looks like the 720 is on paar with the Wii U so we won't see another Wii scenario.

To give you an explanation, 3.2GHz today absolutely blows 3.2GHz from 2005 out of the water. It's newer tech, so it's easily possible.

Xbox has no First Party Games that interest me.
The PS4 will already have Blu-Ray and First Party Games that I like.
The only way Microsoft will make me buy an Xbox 720 is to have a Monster Hunter exclusive.

It's not really fair to compare single core cpu's to 16 core's.

Depends how you look at it.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

Not surprised that this is the direction Microsoft is taking. It's highly doubtful I'll buy a 720, unless Halo 5 ends up being made for it, even then they still have to convince me it'll be a good game. :P

I just hope the low price points of Xbox 720 and Wii U don't end up cannibalizing PS4's sales. The last thing I want is for Sony to have to pull out of the console industry... :(

apparently is the FX 8 or 6 core apu cpu by AMD... or a power 7... Take notice that 6 and 8 core cpus by AMD are NOT apus... cpu + gpu together...

I think possibly a customised APU (Sony is apparently having the CPU and 7970 on the same die), this is going with my theory again that the rumours of an X(4-6)70 GPU is being used. The previous rumours from trusted insiders said 2 GPUs, I was confused at the time too but when that rumour of one of the GPUs being a mid range, it would make sense.

Hybrid Crossfire is what I think is being used.

The one thing we don't know is how much of a loss, if any, is Microsoft is selling this at. 299 is Wii U territory, if it is being subsidised then clearly there is a major power difference between the Wii U and the 720.

Could you number crunch a few numbers too? What are how many SPUs are in the following GPUs:

4850
5770
6870
6670
7670
7970

Yes, you can't measure the power of a cpu with just GHz. Actually clockspeed means nothing.

First off xbox 360 has 3 cores while the rumored one has 4 cores. That means it's 3.2GHz times 4 instead of 3.2GHz times 3.

Also it's about the effectiveness per GHz. It depends on the architecture.

To really show you that GHz does not mean that much.

i5 2500k has 4 cores and runs on the architecture sandybridge. It has 3.3GHz.

The i7 3960X has 6 cores and has the architecture sandybridge-e. It runs on 3.3GHz as well.

The i7 3960x it about 5-6 times better than 2500k and costs about 5 times as much.

If it's $300 and what this tells is true, than the Xbox 720 won't be that much more powerful than the Wii U.

I wouldn't think they were subsidizing too much. The PS3 went all out and lost $400 per console to be the most advanced one. I don't think Xbox would sell it at too big of a loss after seeing what Sony did. It's probably $400 or $500 at the most.

If it's $300 and what this tells is true, than the Xbox 720 won't be that much more powerful than the Wii U.

Good :P

We can't say that for sure though. Microsoft has enough cash in their pockets to sell top of the line PC-level hardware at $300 if they so pleased. And it'd be a smart business move, considering a large part of what the Wii U will have going for it in the casual audience's eyes is the fact that it'll probably be sold at a low price point.
