http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/172190/Nintendos_FilsAime_outlines_Wii_Us_dual_GamePad_plans_value_proposition.php

"Games need to be built that can take advantage of the two GamePad controllers," he says. "It's going to be well after launch for those game experiences to come to life."

It seems like dual GamePad support may have been an afterthought, probably just to please those who complained at the system's announcement.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

It doesn't exactly mean that we won't see it till way after launch.
Perhaps he mean't that it would be well after the launch of the WiiU before developers begin to see the full potential of using 2 controllers

Sounds less like "Dual Gamepad Support's coming later," and more like "no launch titles support dual gamepads." The support for it to work probably will be there, but it seems like the first launch titles won't use two gamepads for local multiplayer. But then again, who's to say? None of the games are out, so devs could slide in dual gamepad support.

It seems like dual GamePad support may have been an afterthought, probably just to please those who complained at the system's announcement.

They said it was at e3.
And they also said dualpad wouldn't be available at launch on stage.

Hardcore gamers don't even care, since a screen on the controller is just a gimmick anyway.
It supports 4 propad's though.

I don't see many games taking advantage of two Wii U GamePads, simply because I believe devs won't see it as a feasible option.
i.e. slow down on frames, chances of people actually having two GamePads etc.

And they also said dualpad wouldn't be available at launch on stage.

Isn't this mainly because the earlier dev kits only supported one game pad? So the games being released at launch will have started production when only one pad was available?

This sounds like what they said last year. That they want to focus on just buying one now, and later on doing games witg more.

Well that should have been thought of in the first place before making it backward compatible. This makes it seem like wii 1.5 to me and I'm sure to some other would be buyers as well.
I am, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof, and incapable of error.

You might not be able to use two gamepads at launch but that doesn't mean anything about the pro controller. At E3 they were playing Rayman Legends with multiple pro controllers. Just because we won't be using multiple gamepads doesn't mean that we're just going to be using wii remotes.

As someone said earlier, the Wii U has the support of 2 gamepads but the launch titles do not. It is because the games coming a launch didn't need it and developers were focusing on how to use the one gamepad. Games will come with the use of 2 Gamepads. Madden will probably be the first game to use this. FIFA as well...

All that means is no launch games will require 2 upads. Developers didn't know there would be dual gamepad support until recently, so they haven't put it in there games. If anything, this is good, since it means you don't have to worry about buying an extra pad at launch. I could care less either way, as I rarely do local MP.

yes, the gamepads require more feed, more sync software, more input software, to run, it is already stated the fps will drop to 30 on both gamepads, and there are pro controllers, but the beloved wii controllers will still be used, and its not a wii 1.5 because of it, its just more additions to a console, any pixel counter here can tell you that the wii u is extremely impressive to run 720p 60fps perfect tablet to tv sync, and neat new graphics that are actually shown in your casual titles like pikmon3 or even mario u (what im going to call it), thats well enough to say its a wii 2.0 that has a greater than 2x power increase from previous consoles

to put that to comparison, a xbox360 starts using max resources at 720p and 30fps, and will generally not have any power left to produce anything but minor fogs and textures (which can be developed to look better like halo4, which is just a collaboration of single good character models in a prop filled enviroment), so that means the wii u will undoubtfully be near 2x better straight out of launch, think of how good things will be 4 years of tweaks from now
