1. Why wasn't this a poll thread?

2. Like so many people have said already, I don't need DVD/Blu-Ray playback on a game console. It can be a convenient perk, but it isn't necessary.

They would have had to pay some HUGE loyalty fee to even get the blu ray name on their console, let alone be able to play them.
That means a much higher cost. As long as they have Netflix or an equivalent im not too worried

The XBox 360 and PS3 use way more power than regular DVD-players when they play movies. For this reason I never use my Xbox for DVD's. I imagine the same would be the case with the Wii U.

I don't care, but it would be nice to have. I'm sure it's easily possible for the Wii U to play DVD movies. (I mean, you have to hack your Wii just to watch DVDs on Wii).

It would be a pleasant addition to the console, but it isn't needed. Plus, adding blu-ray support would raise the cost, Nintendo's doing us all a favor by keeping the price down.

Other than to save me some space, I don't really care about not being able to play DVDs. Though since I expect the rest of the Next-Gen(This-Gen has this ) consoles to have this, it won't help Nintendo.

I agree with this, it would have been nice but I'm not going to shout about it like I would have it they had said it wasn't HD or something. The good thing about Nintendo was that their consoles have always been affordable, well, until the 3DS.

How many homes(considering that you can afford the Wiiu and the games)don't have a DVD player?

I have 6 as of right now.

And the other one of mine shares the TV with the wii the rest are my brother's, mom's, dad's.
They are used. Do I need them? No, not really.

To answer your question, no I don't care. I have a DVD player to watch DVDs on. A blu-ray player would be nice, but I'm not fussed either way.

I agree with this.

The Wii had it's own disc format, and the Wii U will have its own disc format. It isn't designed to play DVDs.
