Eh, could prove interesting if true, but I feel that it still doesn't have enough wow to truly buy the audience. People may get disappointed that some fan favourites will be in one and not the other (for example, the modern one will have Olimar, but not the retro one). In other cases, some characters that have games from both eras may not necessarily be in both of them (they may opt to have some characters that are essentially retro to not appear in the newer one).

They could try to work around that in two ways. They could either make it so that the Wii U version can download the 3DS characters (either by downloading from the 3DS version, or buying DLC codes for those who don't have it), or by creating different versions of characters based on the era. For example, a mario they could use in the 3DS "retro" era game is one based on Super Mario Bros, using techniques found in Super Mario Bros. 3, or Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. The Wii U "modern" era game could use a FLUDD or Galaxy mario.

3DS Pit could be more focused on using the powerful Three Sacred Treasures as tools of the trade, as well as good ground combat game. Whereas Wii U Pit could be more various with different weapon gameplay, and have better air game. Something stupid like that could satisfy people who are looking for both more varied gameplay, and if they want characters to fit both versions, ASSUMING that the "Retro/Modern era" thing is what they are going for with this game.

Whatever they do, that's my two pieces of chicken on the matter. But there are two things that irk me:

1]. Please, please, PLEASE! Have RUMOUR visible in either the tags or topic title. I already knew that it was rumour, and I really hope that no one is so stupid to confirm it on site, but believe me when I say this... stupidity exists, and everyday of my life I prove it in one way or another. Why, just today, I rocked up to work an hour before I was supposed to... well, at least it wasn't like those other times I rocked up and found out I wasn't working that day.

2]. Doesn't truly belong in the Wii U Games section as it does the General Gaming section. While the article does encompass a little tidbit about the Wii U version (that it being a modern era game), the majority of the article aims at the 3DS counterpart, making it a 3DS topic as opposed to a Wii U topic.

That would be pretty disappointing if true unless they put in the modern ones WITH the retro ones, then that would be alright.

Stop it. I'm 99.9% sure this is fake. Why pick Zelda Informer instead of other gaming giants such as IGN, GameSpot, or Kotaku? Why that site. No offense, but it's not a major site. And c'mon! Does anyone find that just a bit cheesy? OK, I might be the only one here, but I find it cheesy. :P Especially the way it's written. It follows a way of writing that is obviously trying to imitate a press release. And that's why it's not a @SSB4News, because even though I'm following that site, it's just too much of a fake. (BTW, follow me @SSB4News ! :P)

Don't trust Zelda Informer one bit on this unfortunately. First the Rare thing, now this. And both came from "anonymous sources" that likely were just fans emailing the writers just to stir up false hype. I could send them "top secret documents" on a new Virtual Boy successor and they'd probably publish it. :P

I don't trust this... but I don't think it's a terrible idea. Seeing more classic characters would be nice (even though I'm not exactly a "classic gamer" at my age). And since Namco (right?) is on the project, even more classic characters are available.

But also... a big punch in the face about SmashBrothers3D expectations is that 3DS cartridges are 2GB... SuperSmashBrosBrawl is 8GB. Even removing the virtualconsole games, story mode (& cutscenes), and stickers... that wouldn't bring the game back down to 2GB. Yes the graphics might be less detailed, and maybe less polygons, and maybe slightly less sound quality, but it will need to be portable and 2GB. So bringing in a new roster would allow them to remove much of the old one without raging players attacking. I figure this is a good way to make a smaller version of Smash seem interesting and fresh.
I find it ironic that a classic theme makes me thinks its fresh... but it does.

The MINIMUM for a 3DS game card is 2GB. The maximum for a 3DS game card is still said to be around the 8GB mark. And if anyone is going to be the first to have an 8GB game card, odds are it'll be Sakurai.

This isn't true. No good source and highly unlikely for us to get it in 2013.

I sorta like this idea, but really I think it would be very very hard to pull off. I would like it if when you connected a 3DS copy with a copy of the Wii U version it unlocked all the modern game characters, and the retro characters unlocked in the Wii U version. That might be cool.
