I just had my 1st complete freeze since launch using Nintendo Land (specifically my 2nd attempt at the balloon fight). Hasn't happened *yet* in NSMB.

Well, 5 minutes after my first freeze, it froze again in Nintendo Land right away when I restarted the game and tried to play the coin pachinko game.

So far mine has only froze twice. Both while using the internet browser (and both times also happened to be while reading threads in the hardware section). Since then my cousin came over and we played a crap-ton of ZombiU, NSMB U, and Nintendo Land, and I browsed some other sites with the browser, and played NSMB U just a few minutes ago. Hasn't happened since. (knock-on-wood)

That is cuz most people cant get it: either live outside USA , or cant find it, or cant afford it.. So they post crap comments.. Also, the is a small number of complaints compared to those who dont have problems.
Me and 2 of my friends have 0 problems.. Mine never froze or lagged..everything works great and i dont think graphics suk.

even darksiders is "less" on wii U, in textures and objects, with less grass, less trees, texture loading delays, I saw videos on youtube. The problem with wii U is, everybody expected better looks in the games, because the game engines comply with the hardware capabilities, but till now, we see the same thing in our screens or less. The only game that looks crispier, is batman, but it does have texture loading problems also...

Maybe its all bad ports, fingers crossed. Even zombie U took bad comments.

to be honnest, I was expecting somethig like the video above... And dont tell me its extreme.. its 5 years ago.

Whoa man, I never played crysis on my 360, and its been forever since I played it on my pc, so when I saw the 360 vid i was thinking 'not bad!' until they showed the pcscreen and it crapped all over it.

Definately a much larger difference than the darksiders comparison. I would much rather have a few missing trees (and lets face it, for a 360 game those trees in the 360 version looked like crap, hell the trees in Skyward sword were modeled better.) And at least the wii u had some tradeoffs, like farther texture draw. Load time was unacceptable for me. In an open world game? Unacceptable.

Anyways, its probably the port, I think I mentioned earlier how even Retro screwed up porting Metroid prime to the more powerful wii missing all kinds of graphical effects, uh, the gun charging effects were missing, the interactive water physics were missing, the lighting effects for the ice beam were missing, embm bump mapping of Samus's model from metallic tunnels were missing (though still present on the ice), all kinds of those neat little details that made prime the mind blowing experience it was were missing. Man I was so pissed when the trilogy came out (Of course, I got it for the original prime, as I dont feel echoes and corruption hold a candle to the first game).

Yeah, And I can garuntee you the metroid prime Trilogy had more staff, time, and money behind it than the wii u port of darksiders. Sometimes people just mess up, could be as simple as they forgot to do it.

I played assassins creed 3 on pc today.. its very crispy but its horrible at the same time... its 100% port that even if we change the settings to super duper in the pc, it is still the same... So I am not surprised why wii U and 360 its the same thing in comparisons.. Even my graphic card was silent... assasins creed 2 was much heavier...

there are many close up scenes and you could count the polygons... But the faces are very crispy and realistic. I will expect to watch alien colonial marines game on wii U, I remember the developers said : ITS NOT A PORT... fingers crossed.

Thats not scaring me... My xbox360 freeze all the time (the time I used it) and I believe its software based conflicts... memory leaks? Memory leaks symptoms are to freeze the game (in pc)... But its the developers fault, not the hardware. I also read an article that game updates on Wii U are huge... thats good... that means they fixing bugs. And dont foget that these games are not optimised, they are ports, also the first games!!!

An example... we all know that consoles are optimised for gaming.. But games in a pc, cannot be optimised, due to a lot of different hardwares... Wii U is brand new, many games came in the last momment, or optimised for a slightly different dev kit(s) so they are less optimised for it... that means lots of bugs.

Here is a nice question, to find out... those who play mario U or nintendo land, freezes? Because its a nintendo game... if so, then its more likely the os.

I don't think it's a crap console, I think it is running half baked software and Nintendo just needs to fix it and release patches.

That is cuz most people cant get it: either live outside USA , or cant find it, or cant afford it.. So they post crap comments.. Also, the is a small number of complaints compared to those who dont have problems.

Considering the hardware is all 100% identical, and all of the Wii U's are running the same software (either before or after the update), there should be no difference between anyone's consoles. If mine freezes yours likely freezes as well. Perhaps you aren't actually using yours as much as we're using ours, I don't know.

I've got a few things to say.. first, my Xbox 360 never freezes so perhaps yours has some issue with overheating - it's not uncommon but it's fixable. You could send it into Microsoft or do it yourself, it's not rocket science.
As for you stating that the games are ports - that's not even true. It's like 7 of the launch games are ports, and all the rest are not. I've had my Wii U freeze in Tank Tank Tank, CoD BO 2, Nintendo Land and ZombiU. BTW it doesn't matter who made the game, freezes are happening across basically any game right now. Because of that, I do think it's related to the OS though - there has to be something happening that all freezes have in common. Perhaps there's a couple different reasons, but that's not my problem, it's Nintendo's. It's their job to release stable software so the console is actually playable, because otherwise the Wii U is going to tarnish their name. Bad publicity from review sites is bad enough, but when people see it freezing and being slow first hand, it's much worse. They then mention it to their friends if they are asked about the Wii U, who then mention it to their friends, etc. It's a domino effect.

- bad code
- unfinished code
- unpolished code
- bad flash chips
- poor cooling
- not enough cooling
- hell even not enough heating

Could be any number of issues. But MOST likely is the OS software being rushed to meet release date. If that's the case, they will patch it soon, one hopes.

I don't want to sound like I'm making up excuses, but honestly, issues are expected at launch for any system (XBOX 360 being the most guilty of them all, you can google the hell most went through). I mean, the upside is system bricking isn't nearly what I was expecting, this IS the first time Nintendo goes this above and beyond in terms of hardware AND software.. Unless I'm sure it'll be a smooth ride, I wouldn't show it off for awhile, until the bumps are smoothed out. I hope it becomes more enjoyable for you in the future and I hope this bad experience is redeemable :/

Im inclined to agree with the os cause. I definately feel it was rushed to release, I mean, we didnt even SEE the os until right before the thing was in stores. And if it IS running on a seperate co processor (arm co processor came from the same leak.as the audio dsp) Conflicts between the two from a rushed software product like an os could definately lead to these issues.

The major difference here is that the XBOX 360 version is a port of the PC version, and since PC has more horsepower it looks better than on a 360.

Howerver, Darksiders II Wii U is a port of the XBOX 360, so if the 360 version looks bad, it's going to look bad on the Wii U unless developers upscaled textures, models, etc. which isn't the case. They only improved what they could with minimum development costs, that is shadow mapping resolution and draw distance. And the fact that the Wii U version doesn't have trees in that particular area only means that that is a development leftover, since all versions were being developed at the same time they simply forgot to add those trees.
If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?

I havent bought it man, just a speculation... First of all, if you notice a prev comment in the same topic, wii U isnt released yet in EUROPE and I live in EU... second and most important, in US it costs 350-400 dollars, while in EU costs 600+ dollars (380 euro +++ some stores sell it for 432 euro. So, I find it extremly expensive... anyway... It was just a speculation

Then I have a question for you. Assasins creed 3 have upgraded textures in the pc version. And from what I ve played till now and seen on youtube (wii U gameplay), wii U its somewhere between... It projects pc effects better than 360 version (dust, fog, sea), while it maintains the crappy textures of 360... why? I will make a video and post it here, how assasins creed looks like in the PC, so users who own AC3 for wii U, will provide us the differenses. Its a port from 360 (both versions, wii U and PC... just to check the textures)

It seems nowadays the lead platform for many games is the Xbox 360 and from there it gets ported to ps3, pc and now wii u. Of those the wii u has the big advantage because its very similar hardware with a AMD gpu and powerpc cpu. It would definitely be the easiest to port to.

I went through about 7 xbox 360s with numerous faults and I had regular freezing on some of them. That was a manufacturing fault though. Its clear the wii u system software is in a very early state. The console was rushed to market to be sold for christmas. If they had missed this window and been selling them in the new year it would have been hugely damaging to sales.

The Wii U isn't a powerhouse per say, so it's normal to see PC features miss the Wii U version. But in this case I'm more keen to think that it's due to limited development time of the Wii U version than the system power itself.
If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?
