We'll begin with the specs. And before we go any further, know that these are current specs for a PS4 development kit, not the final retail console itself. So while the general gist of the things you see here may be similar to what makes it into the actual commercial hardware, there's every chance some—if not all of it—changes, if only slightly.

That being the case, here's what we know is inside PS4 development kits—model # DVKT-KS000K—as of January 2013. As you'll see, some things have changed since earlier kits became available in March 2012.

System Memory: 8GB
Video Memory: 2.2 GB
CPU: 4x Dual-Core AMD64 "Bulldozer" (so, 8x cores)
GPU: AMD R10xx
Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 2x Ethernet
Drive: Blu-Ray
HDD: 160GB

Audio Output: HDMI & Optical, 2.0, 5.1 & 7.1 channels

it's sounding more and more likely ps4 will be my next gen main console of choice i think the xbox is sounding a bit gimmicky for my tastes so far.

Oh no, its going to come with Kinect 2.0, the horror. Its not like anyone is forcing you to use it, unlike the Wii or Wii U which arguably force you to use their gimmicks. (not that I personally have a problem with that, most of the time)

Also bear in mind devkits usually have double the RAM of the retail console, so this makes it sounds a lot like it does indeed only have 4GB RAM.

Unfortunately I havn't been able to touch my PS3, the whole vibe of the console & company drive me away from it, for some reason.

4GB of gddr5 is more expensive than even 12GB of gddr3, why? Beacause it's simply faster offering huge bandwidth.

PS4 sounds like a beast. 720 not so much.

Nintendo has always been superior in Japan so I wouldn't say threaten, but unfortunately EU/NA seem to prefer the Xbox or Playstation.

It seems like a repeating cycle that started since the Nintendo 64. All my friends from real life said they'd buy a Wii U and are genuinely impressed by it but they're still reluctant and are basically waiting for the new Xbox/Playstation.

Im keen to see what they have, But pretty sure i will get the next xbox. I started this gen with the ps3 and since buying a 360 like a year or so ago i think ive played my ps3 like twice.

Bulldozer? they went with BULLDOZER? Not even steam roller but fricking bulldozer? Bulldozer, which people have been calling out for being a complete pos for a long time now, and not steam roller which attempted to fix bulldozers broken-ness (but only managed a 15% improvement), but the broken bulldozer?

I really hope this is a mistake.

Wouldn't worry about WiiU, look at the indi games on 360 and compare them to the handful currently on WiiU such as Cave. Its all about the games and more to the point in this day and age the price of games. If both the other new consoles stop the preowned buying then they are doomed.
