Wii U Blog: Miyamoto: The Wii U is ideal to “accommodate new types of games and new characters”

It’s been a while since there’s been a new franchise from Nintendo like Mario or Zelda. Shigeru Miyamoto has said though that the Wii U is “the ideal system to accommodate new types of games and new characters.”

This is the full quote where he also re-confirms the existence of Pikmin on the Wii U:

It was my goal with the Pikmin, I started to develop for the GameCube and there will also a Pikmin Wii U I’m working on too. But I agree: do not always do it again. From this point of view, the Wii U looks good: it is the ideal system to accommodate new types of games and new characters.

Let’s hope Nintendo rolls with it. They tend it play it pretty safe in that they stick with franchise they’re familiar with, but something completely different would be nice too.
