Slow down bro, anything showed today that was live rendered, as in, running on the hardware as they were talking about it, isn't anything new or mindblowing, and PS4 is no where near 10x the Wii U. The target renders looked great but real gameplay won't be all they claim it to be. This is a hype conference, they are only going to speak positives about the console, and most of it is hyperbole.

Exactly. No doubt that the PS4 will have amazing graphics. But I think we've almost hit a threshold of how great graphics can actually look. Obviously from todays stand point and the days of the N64 and PS 1 are totally different... But how much further can they actually take things. I think pretty soon that console developers will actually have to think of more innovative ideas to one up each other rather then concentrate on graphics. i.e, Nintendos gamepad.

Just my opinion, though.

Actually it's in engine footage that was prepared for the conference. It was not running on PS4 hardware in realtime and it isn't actual gameplay. That's what the engine can do, which is very nice indeed. Whether they can get that running on PS4 hardware is another matter. I'm sure they can, but it won't be until later in the gen before they do. The PS3 reveal had some incredible looking stuff that never came to fruition and Sony was found out then for using CGI and claiming it was game footage. This time they were very careful about how things were worded.

i don't mind them making promises. Hell no one does. It's still a slick piece of hardware, I just don't want everyone here to lose their horse scat over this reveal thinking that everything they showed was ACTUAL INGAME REALTIME FINAL HARDWARE FAPFAP, because it isn't. Their job yesterday was simply to build hype for their box, and theyve done that, bravo. However, I think there will be a lot of disappointment come e3 when everyone realizes that some of the things they were showing still aren't possible in game code on any PC today. AMD do target renders like this all the time, they even did one specifically for tessellation and ray tracing that looked awesome but won't be possible for years to come. It isn't uncommon for companies to try and wow you with something that is not realistically what you would see running an actual game on the console, they've all done it.

I agree that Nintendo has to cater for both New Nintendo fans for the ages we were when we were kids, but they also need to start catering for the Nintendo fans that grew up. Sony has been doing this ever since Playstation. Their games got more mature as Playstation got more mature/older.

Not to say that I still enjoy the old IPs, a lot of them are very layered and appeal to all ages. However Nintendo do need to get some M-rated titles on their console too. It's what the parental lock they have is for ;)

I'm personally not interested in the PS4. If they think they can tell me what I can and can't do with my own games by locking them to the console, they won't be getting a penny from me. For example, I buy a game like Colonial Marines, turns out to be crap.....I'm stuck with it as it's locked to my console. So that game I've just dropped my hard earned money on this morning, may as well just get chucked in the bin as it's useless as I can't trade it in or take it back for a refund.
Sorry Sony, this is my first PlayStation I won't be owning!

Sony have already stated officially that games will not be locked to a specific console and they have no plans on restricting the use of second hand games so I have no idea why you would even think that. Sony's presentation clearly showed that they are planning on releasing a far better console in all aspects then the Wii U. The message that they have listened to developers was clear. The message that they have listened to gamer's complaints was real. The potential of the PS4 was absolutely clear. Yes Sony have made promises before and not lived up to them but they are clearly aware this is their last chance and if they do not fulfill all their promises they will be up the creek. Nintendo can learn a lot of lessons from them with regards to what both developers and gamers want out of a games console.

Nintendo botched the launch by entrusting it to third parties who delayed, cancelled, and under delivered. E3 2013 is launch 2.0
Sonys conference kinda sucked.
The single greatest thing was the unreal 4 demo. And we saw that last year.
Knack is just stupid. Kill zone looks ok. And second son looks like a wii u game.
The controller looks like something out of the Sanford and Son junkyard and... Where the heck did Sony find so many creepy people to keynote?
Nintendo shouldn't take notes here.
But I will guarantee Microsoft has a much better, more focused reveal in store.
Wii u will likely bE the fun console. Xbox will likely be the more connected console. And ps4 will be the most powerful.
But in the end the Xbox and ps4 will look very similar and the wii u will be somewhat less, but still look good next to these two.
Sony launched this reveal early and it just didn't feel fully baked.
Like maybe they aren't confident going head to head with Nintendo at e3. It's also likely they didn't feel confident competing against a 720 reveal.
Sony revealed a great hardware specification. ESP the gpu and ram. But the games were not that great. And the overrall delivery of the keynote was lame. ESP the bald guy who tried too hard to sell his game by trying to stir up real life strife over the police... Just to sell a game. Lol

Spoken like a true fanboy. If you think Nintendo has done a far better job then Sony then you're living in cloud cuckoo land. That press conference was more impressive then anything I've seen before from any of the three console manufacturers. The majority of what they showed was very impressive including the controller and most of the games as well as the raw hardware specs. Their online and streaming plans with GaiKai and remote play between the PS4 and the Vita are pretty impressive. Being able to play games before they have been completely downloaded (a feature so far only available to PC gamers) is pretty impressive. The level of third party support is pretty impressive. Need I go on. Yes as I said Sony like Microsoft and even Nintendo have made promises before they haven't kept but I believe as I said above Sony is well aware this is their last chance and listening to both developers and gamers in what they want and giving it to them is what they need to do. If they relinquish on any of their promises they will be in big trouble. The PS4 is shaping out to be a far better experience then the Wii U.

I've been a Sony fan for some time, and Nintendo fan second. However most of the stuff is already potentially available on both Wii U and PS3. Things like cloud gaming could potentially be available on any hardware so long as the internet connection is good. Social gaming is already part of Miiverse with the exception of recording and sharing video and jumping in. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but if Windows XP machines have the ability to remotely control another's PC then I'm sure it's something Nintendo could add if they wanted to on their hardware. Still I don't know why i'd want someone to be an annoying backseat driver, but player choices. Remote play can again be easily developed by Nintendo on Wii U hardware, it again requires just a decent enough internet connection.

THE only three truely impressive things about the PS4 is the 8GB of GDDR5 RAM it is truly a sensible choice, something that is attractive to developers both for graphical reasons but for both grameplay reasons and level size. Hell even Wii U should have had 4GB, 3 for games and 1 for the OS. The ability to resume a game from standby is lovely, and I'm not quite sure but I think the Wii U could have the potential to do with a firmware update, and finally - installing games in the background my god that's a relief it was teh bane of my PS3 playing existence, then again Wii U games don't require installations, at least not yet.....

I'll probably pick up another next gen console, but I want to see what Microsoft pull out of the bag, if it's cheaper than PS4, and can run Unreal 4 just as well then I'll probably grab a 720. However I wont get one on release because so far there's nothing I want and I'm waiting to see what next gen third party support is like with the Wii U first. The Wii U has already proved it's capable of acceptable visuals, and has proved it can handle PC textures, lighting, tessellation, reflection and other effects at 720p at 30 frames. Something acceptable to me personally.

There is absolutely nothing on PC that looks like the capcom "demo." that looked like the cgi in the newer star wars movies.

And I do expect those graphics to be a reality in-game. But not immediately. And not in games with many important (non background prop) characters on screen at once. I can see that engine used for street fighter, resident evil, and RPG games and showcase that well. But that appeared to not be truly real-time at that time. Just a "wow" clip. The obviously fake, inconsistent, and non functioning tacked on HUD was the smoking gun.

Lol

Speaking of fanboy...

Just telling it like it is.

Btw, I didn't say Nintendo did better pressers with the U. They are clearly not marketing the excellent hardware very well.

What I said was that Sonys conference sucked. And it did.

hopefully they pull it together by e3. And hopefully it actually has playable graphics showcases. It's going to need them.

Actually AMD did a tech demo showcasing "cinematic gameplay graphics" and it looked like CGI at the time, it still isn't feasible even on super high end enthusiast gaming machines though.

It will be in consoles this gen.

But only in certain games.

Ie: games that pan the entire level etc. at a glance are unlikely. Resident evil on the other hand...

Lol. Tell me about it.

Forget racing games. Driving 200 mph and catching the car ahead of you... Then bam! The game draws a wall two feet in front of you.

I noticed even in the capcom demo, how dark everything was, how slow moving, and linear. I can see it being a realistic target for a resident evil game and then find its way to other uses. But certainly for a fast moving, far draw distance, many character game like killzone, it will be impossible.

It's gonna cost 1000$ if its more powerfull! you'll need 3-5 Wii U's to sell!

Hello! My name is Kao and I am a Kangaroo! If you can see my kicking picture there, you can see me riding one of mine friends! I am quite popular in the area because I saved alot of animals turning in to women accsesories. It was quite painfull on the way, but I liked the experience! I plan on buying a plane with all my money I got and going on an adventure on the isles. My first adventure was when that Mcguffin Hunter cought me, but I escaped, and I don't want to let any animal in pain! What's your story, mate?
