The only problem is that I can't update the WiiU or fix anything because I can't get off of the home menu:( Do you think that I could exchange it somewhere?

This is the second day for me and I'm having the same problem. Yesterday I played NintendoLand for hours and I had no problem with any updates. Today I tried to play my WiiU and it is frozen on the home menu. It wouldn't turn off so I unplugged it and now I am just letting it take a break. I'm going to see if it works later and then I might exchange it if I need to.

The update takes a long time and it sucks! I would try emailing Nintendo or calling them first to see what they say, then you should just take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one. Just tell them that it wasn't able to turn on, hopefully they'll give you a new one.
