Pro controller causing console shutdown?

21 March 2014 - 10:30 AM

Hi, first time poster. It's possible this topic exists already but I've tried searching numerous times and keep getting an 'error' screen so, exasperatedly, I'm starting this.

My Wii U & Pro controller (official, I might add) are only three months old and receive light/moderate use. I was watching my son play SM3DW earlier today - he was using the Pro controller, the gamepad was not in use . After about an hour we suddenly got the on screen message 'communications with the controller have been interrupted'. The console then inexplicably shut down. Scratching my head, I rebooted. Everything appeared to be okay, navigation with the gamepad was fine but as soon as a button was pressed on the Pro controller the console turned off again. Perplexed, I unplugged the console from the mains for a few minutes, tried again, same result. I checked the charge level of the Pro controller and it's nearly full. I currently have it plugged in to the console to boost the charge and, strangely, it seems okay while plugged in. Hopefully, it's just a hiccup but my faith in the reliability of Ninty hardware has wavered slightly.

I really am at a loss to explain this as everything has always worked perfectly up till now. Has anyone else had this issue & can suggest a possible cause/solution? Thanks :)
