#13234 My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Posted by SonofMrPeanut on 08 July 2011 - 08:34 PM in The Café

In case people haven't seen it yet (you really should be reading Equestria Daily more often), here's a simply amazing new MLP: FiM ad:

There's A Pony For That

Monday the 11th:  Here's a bit of fan art I just coughed up using General Zoi's Pony Creator (Beta) and MS Paint.  I call him David Brony!

I could see his appearance making for a good Rarity episode.

#9704 What music are you listening to at the moment?

Posted by SonofMrPeanut on 20 June 2011 - 09:55 PM in The Café

I'm currently working on a mix of instrumental stuff, and here's two I'm using back-to-back.

Hatfield and the North - Calyx
High Llamas - Glide Time

I also just became aware of these guys via The Needle Drop.

Battles - Ice Cream

As I found out not long after watching that video, it's oddly close to this video:

Il Guinco - Bombay

So here's the laptop background I mentioned earlier. It's condensed on there, so I'll give you the whole image in all its retro-gaming glory.

#8884 3DS - Wii U Connectivity Speculation Thread

Posted by SonofMrPeanut on 18 June 2011 - 03:50 PM in Wii U Hardware

If StreetPass works with the Wii U, it would receive all the same basic content the 3DS would plus that of games StP would be compatible with. The Wii U would also certainly introduce content via SpotPass (SpP) that could be spread via StP.

Obviously it wouldn't work "just like" the 3DS, since no one will want to carry around the Wii U controller no matter how light it is (it's still big, even for a messenger bag). Certain games will also be exclusive to the 3DS but could be introduced through the Wii U.

Maybe coins could also play a role in certain Wii U games. That might encourage them to increase the cap amount that could be earned in one day.

#8543 Let's talk Zelda Wii U

Posted by SonofMrPeanut on 17 June 2011 - 10:48 PM in Wii U Games and Software

So I was at some art exhibition earlier tonight, and another visual concept struck me about what they can do with whatever their next "alternate world" concept will be in a Zelda game (after the super-traditional one we get 1st for Wii U, obviously).  I'm actually thinking of Link's trippy vision with the Shadow Links in Twilight Princess.

The entire on-screen environment is pure black.  With the exclusion of one object meant to capture the player's eye, everything in the realm is only the concept of itself.  In the painting I saw that inspired this, the only solid object was a red sun.  Shadow Links are white outlines of themselves (their features are drawn with white lines), a Triforce is pure triangles of light with no physical definition.

As for the solid object, it could be a pivotal character Link is supposed to meet, maybe it's the exterior of a dungeon, or maybe it's an associated object in his subconscious.  It's a bit purgatorial, void-ish or whatever you call it.  We've had a bit of it in TP, but not to this extent.

#9904 Yoshi Wii U

Posted by SonofMrPeanut on 21 June 2011 - 03:44 PM in Wii U Games and Software

They could definitely do one, but they're going to have to do something really good, A completely new platforming adventure (possibly a 3D one)

I'd second you on that one. This is the time for Retro to do another reimagining since they just did the "true-to-form with modern benefits" DKCR.

What a trip that would be if Retro was working on a Yoshi game. XD

It's said they move like the Circle Pad but handles like the nunchuck analog.

I'll be Dr. Crygor from Warioware.  Bad Side.

In his own mind he's not evil, but he's a mad scientist.  Doing sinister things is in his nature, but he does it for the sake of scientific progress.  He's an odd duck.  That's why he wears yellow.  :)

As he levels up he'll invent new crazy contraptions.  Right now I'd say every 5 levels or so, each one being more useful than the one before.

#88185 Iwata : The other companies online is to far developed for Nintendo to Catch up.

Posted by SonofMrPeanut on 16 June 2012 - 08:11 PM in Wii U Hardware

Concerning the friend code situation, I have 3 words (1 an abbreviation) that should put this entire situation in perspective:  Steam ID Number.

Based on the description of the network we've been given so far, I suspect the "friend code" will operate in a similar manner, only applying to account matters rather than account-interaction (which begs the question why call it a friend code at that point?).  When I attended a StreetPass OC meet recently the Nintendo rep in attendance said you could have your info in up to 5 systems, so I suspect the number would also be used in system transfers to verify the account owner authorized it.

Some funny info about those Zelda games. Back then, Nintendo was interested in releasing a CD add-on for the SNES and had the assistance of Phillips for development. They had a rather fleshed-out relationship and an agreement had been made where Phillips would supply CD drives. One of the stipulations of their agreement was that Phillips would be allowed to release several Nintendo games on their CD-i platform. Therefore Nintendo licensed their top tier IPs for several games! Nintendo was not involved in development at all (and it shows).

If you're wondering what happened to the CD drive: Nintendo eventually ignored their agreement with Phillips (Nintendo was even more arrogant back then than they are now) as they had in fact been in bed with Sony. Sony was very far along developing a CD unit for SNES due to talks, but Nintendo decided to tell Sony to go screw also. Sony's work in developing the add-on culminated in their release of the PSX. Yes, Nintendo's arrogance in fact spawned their own nemesis.

To get actually on topic, dear god Superman 64.

Here's a very good video covering the events of the SNES CD's development.

The SNES CD Story

Just insert the part where Sony takes away most of Nintendo's 3rd parties and there you have it.

MaskWidget avatar is not wearing a mask. By the rules of calvinball, he forfits his next twentity forte wins to the person who called him on it.
I'm not wearing a mask, admittingly, but I wasn't playing the game when i called him, so the points go to me.
Furthermore, I'm in the "Zone of omnipotance", which gives me invulnerability to the next three rules and twist them to my own means.

...Or I could just win and make everything way simpler.

Winning!  Duh.
