#147559 New PS4 rumors - No PS3 disc based backwards compatibility, anti-used games, etc

Posted by Pinstripe on 13 December 2012 - 10:07 AM in General Gaming

The HD 7970 is a bit overkill. That thing needs a huge (loud) cooler and sucks a lot of power.

Doesn't matter. The SteamBox is gonna destroy them all.

#145814 RUMOR- HipHopGamer: Nintendo planning to buy Sega

Super Mario: Total War

I call horserainbow.

#142406 Rumored xbox 720 CPU specs... 1.6GHZ

Posted by Pinstripe on 03 December 2012 - 01:02 AM in Wii U Hardware

Perhaps that 1.6Ghz rumor is only pertaining to the cheaper Xbox TV model? The core edition probably will higher clock speeds, if not, who really cares?

#140294 Finally CPU/GPU specs sorta ha!

Posted by Pinstripe on 29 November 2012 - 07:58 AM in Wii U Hardware

I don't care. Just give me those exclusives and I'll be a happy chap.

For Doom 4, Star Wars 1313 etc. I have a high-end PC. Thank you.

#134615 Wii U 'Has A Horrible, Slow CPU' Says Metro Last Light Dev

Posted by Pinstripe on 20 November 2012 - 11:19 AM in Wii U Hardware

Bring on a new Metroid game from Retro and The Last Story 2 and I'm game.

I'm gonna wait till E3 2013 when the other systems from MS/Sony will be announced, and when Nintendo has new games to announced. Then it should be clear for which system I'm gonna settle. Probably Wii U anyway, because I can do all the other multiplatform gaming on my High-End PC.

#134378 Internal storage vs. USB hard drive performance

Posted by Pinstripe on 20 November 2012 - 05:54 AM in Wii U Hardware

Hi, can someone comment whether an external USB HDD is faster than the internal 8/32GB Flash memory in terms of performance and loading times? Thanks.

#87593 Iwata says developers are currently utilising 'only half Wii U's full...

Posted by Pinstripe on 13 June 2012 - 11:46 PM in Wii U Hardware

I feel my expectations are realistic and I'm not convinced the wii u will be a powerful console just competitive with 360 and PS3.

You sure about that? ZombiU was formerly known as "Killer Freaks from ouer Space", and was actually developed on a Xbox 360 SDK, since the Wii U hardware wasn't quite ready at that point yet.

You won't really see the full potential of what the Wii U can offer for launch games. 2-3 years down the road, with final DevKits, and full understanding of the hardware and optimizations will fully reveal what the Wii U can do.

As for the competitors: Well, Sony and MS have a choice. Will they put monster hardware into the console and add a cheap controller to it (more of the same?), or vice versa? 'Cause doing both would ultimately result into a $500-600 machine, which nobody is gonna buy.

Nintendo wins austomatically.

#86699 Ending the Wii U power debate once and for all

Posted by Pinstripe on 11 June 2012 - 12:12 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm pretty new here, but the first thing I noticed is the eternal whining about the Wii U not being a true Next Gen console etc.

Uhm, okay.

First of all, we don't know the exact specs yet, and Nintendo won't likely release them ever. So you gotta wait from several (!) developer sources to get a hand on the final dev kits and reveal them.

And secondly, even if we find out, this won't put me off at all. Playing Metroid, Zelda or Eternal Darkness 2 in, say Xbox 360 level graphics or slightly better, is already so good news to make every self-respected gamer and Nintendo fan wet.

And the Next Gen consoles won't really have that huge generational leap ahead, as mentioned before, between PS2 and PS3.

Microsoft is not interested in hardcore gaming anymore (Entertainment hub and Kinect nonsense instead), and Sony is rather interested in making semi-interactive movies with horribly high budgets but zero memorable value. It's pretty sure to me what console I'm gonna pick up next.

#86098 Wiiu Cpu just as powerful as the ps3-360 and its Gpu 1.5 x stronger? (Please no)

Posted by Pinstripe on 09 June 2012 - 11:50 AM in Wii U Hardware

Well, we do know for a fact that CryEngine 3 runs on the Wii U. That's good enough for me.

UE4 won't be ready before 2014 anyway. The first PS4/Xbox Next games will look more like High-End PC games, as we've seen at E3 with Watch_Dogs and Star Wars 1313 lately. The full potential of Next Gen consoles will need a couple of years to unlock.

Isn't thew Xbox 720 also using IBM's Power? This console certainly must be a target for UE4, no?

U know when "graphics doesnt matter, only gameplay matters" stopped existing? since game engines invented.. And we saw that with Wii..

Didn't stop the Wii or the PS2 to be the most successful consoles ever, despite being weaker than their competitors.

#86060 Wiiu Cpu just as powerful as the ps3-360 and its Gpu 1.5 x stronger? (Please no)

Posted by Pinstripe on 09 June 2012 - 10:17 AM in Wii U Hardware

I play my graphics intensive blockbuster games all on my high-end PC (since most PS4/Xbox 720 will get ported anyway), and for the real console experience, I use the Wii U. So I got everything covered.

ZombiU was probably developed with a Xbox 360 devkit, and then ported to Wii U. This is actually quite usual in early development stages when a new hardware arrives.

A couple years down the road when devs work with the final SDK and know how to use the API, shaders etc to full extend, the Wii U should be able to generate quite some impressive images. Just looks what the PS3 can render with Beyond: Two Souls, and that with a mere 512MB RAM!

I'm really not worried about the hardware capabilities. If you are, you probably are not a fan of Nintendo games (gameplay first). In that case, I'd like to recommend you to buy a Xbox 720 (entertainment hub, no games), or PS4 (look, we can make great realtime movies!).

#85965 Wii games on Wii U via HDMI possible?

Posted by Pinstripe on 08 June 2012 - 10:29 PM in Wii U Hardware

Thanks for all the answers guys. I was aware the Wii U hardware wouldn'd upscale the games, but at least I don't need to buy an expensive VGA Box to play Wii games.

Can't wait to get started with that Metroid Prime Trilogy!

#85771 Wii games on Wii U via HDMI possible?

Posted by Pinstripe on 08 June 2012 - 10:50 AM in Wii U Hardware

Hi, is there any information whether it will be possible to play Wii games on the Wii U via HDMI? This is important since I can't pop an old Wii AV-Cable and/or RGB-cable into my Flat-Screen monitor without using a converter box.
Playing Wii games on the Wii U via HDMI output would be a Day 1 purchase argument for me, since I completeley missed out on all of those.

Thanks.
