#15407 Zelda, the Wii U and online functionality

Posted by Dementis on 16 July 2011 - 01:08 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Four swords style? Co-operate with your friends, or kill each other and throw each other into traps.

You do know Link is the guy and Zelda is the girl, right? lol.

Eh, what? That's what he said.

#13152 Zelda Wii U Art Style

Posted by Dementis on 08 July 2011 - 11:31 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I want one to be a realistic style, just to see what it'd be like.

#21056 Zelda Wii U Art Style

Posted by Dementis on 13 August 2011 - 04:11 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It's just an art style. But I would like realistic the most to make the most of the new hardware. Cel-shaded is usually used to reduce the file size of the game so you have room for other stuff, and it shouldn't be an issue for the Wii U.

I don't know where you read that, but it's not true, it's completely based on art style. Cel shaded games can have the most beautiful graphics and in some cases have the same amount or more polygons than other styled games, which wouldn't reduce the file size.

#17370 Will Wii U Change the "Hardcore" Opinion?

Posted by Dementis on 29 July 2011 - 09:19 AM in Wii U Hardware

Exactly. But people think back and remember Halo being an Xbox exclusive. Then, Xbox 360 and PS3 come out with all sorts of "hardcore" games. I think hardcore means online multiplayer that you can enjoy for hours. Hardcore in the literal sense would mean people screaming while banging they're heads against a plate of metal when playing a video game.

You evidently are very deluded. Hardcore games are games that are loyal to fans of the series. Hardcore gamers are gamers that are loyal to a specific game.

#9232 Will Wii U Change the "Hardcore" Opinion?

Not any game. No. Not Sports Island or Carnival Games. Dear god *Shudders*.

#9707 Will Wii U Change the "Hardcore" Opinion?

Posted by Dementis on 20 June 2011 - 10:17 PM in Wii U Hardware

Very well put.  When talking about hardcore in the context of video games, a Websters definition wont cut it.  Nobody spends a 7 hour gaming marathon playing wii sports.

That doesn't mean you can't play Wii Sports, hardcore. I can't find the videos, but there are some pretty hardcore video I've seen on YouTube.

I did 6 years ago.
Kinda got sick the next day, though :D
However, that was a good 50% of the total time I put into the game...

The biggest problem, I find, with the 'Hardcore' name is that it's subjective. Many 'Hardcore' gamers don't think Harvest Moon is a 'Hardcore' game, even though I logged at least 50 hours into A Wonderful Life.

When did logging lots of hours into a game make it Hardcore?

#23771 Will the WII U have a brand new sensor bar?

Posted by Dementis on 24 August 2011 - 01:13 AM in Wii U Hardware

[If they use a new sensor bar] they will be forced to sell new Wii remotes or they will use the old sensor bar. It's just simple logic really.

It's not simple logic. They would have to go way out of their way just to make it not work. It's just two sets of inferred LEDs. You can replace the sensor bar with candles and it'd work (depending on light in the room, of course). It's nothing special.

Or are you not talking about what I think you are? You worded it badly.

#14465 Will the Wii U controller run on Batteries or Charger?

Posted by Dementis on 14 July 2011 - 11:37 AM in Wii U Hardware

While the GBA is part of the gameboy line and Heritage in Name, it is it's own separate entity. The same applies with the DS-3DS

Erm... that's the point I was trying to make?

#13650 Will the Wii U controller run on Batteries or Charger?

Posted by Dementis on 10 July 2011 - 10:22 PM in Wii U Hardware

Posted Image

The picture above me, looks like it shows one of those battery covers. I think it's going to support battery's. Which I would rather charge it instead though.

Yeah, except every single model of the DS has that from the original to the 3DS. I just wish that people would do their research first because that is obviously screwed in and the answer should be common knowledge for the simple reason that it would be rediculous not to use rechargeable batteries. A quick Google search also shows that you asked on another forums, so I don't understand why you asked here as well.

#14380 Will the Wii U controller run on Batteries or Charger?

Posted by Dementis on 14 July 2011 - 07:17 AM in Wii U Hardware

How rude. Also, the 3DS is NOT A DS! RAAAAAAGGGEEEEEE!

That's like saying that the Gameboy Advance isn't a Gameboy. And I don't try to be rude, but people are just so stupid its impossible not to be. You don't even have to be told that it is rechargeable, it's just commonsense that it won't be anything but rechargeable.

#11173 Will some games on the Wii U feature 3D sound?

Posted by Dementis on 27 June 2011 - 10:19 AM in Wii U Hardware

Surround sound you mean then yes anything can support that nowadays.

Surround sound you mean cause that is entirely possible.

My TV remote supports surround sound :)

#22809 Wii U's Rejection.

Posted by Dementis on 19 August 2011 - 01:04 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah but the point is what if the 3rd parties fail at first then they completly stop making games on the console so once again people will switch consoles for different games and will end up like a wii with only 1st party master pieces that "Core" gamers don't and other garbage that no one likes.

Ever heard of dudebro? They're people who buy games solely on popularity or graphics. 3rd parties will appeal to them. And say, for example, you could use the Wii Zapper with the Wii U remote as a scope, that'd put you at an advantage in games like COD, and loads of people will eat it up for that sole reason.

And do you know how many people are massive fans of Nintendo games but don't own a Nintendo console for the fact that they can't afford to own 2 consoles and that the PS3 and 360 have more and better third party games? Loads. And if they can get all the first party Nintendo games and all the great third party games on one console it will do brilliantly.

#21050 Wii U's Rejection.

Posted by Dementis on 13 August 2011 - 03:52 AM in Wii U Games and Software

What. Nintendo games sell to the Nintendo fans. 3rd party games sell to everyone else because most will (should) have extra features and better graphics.

#9255 wii u to hardcore for me?

Posted by Dementis on 19 June 2011 - 01:03 PM in Wii U Hardware

i know, but a lot of games that are coming out seem to be like that. there were a lot of light hearted games shown a e3 for wii u ,but the wii u , from what i heard, is meant to have a lot of hardcore games . what worries me is that there will be more hardcore games then lighthearted or casual games

I don't think you really know what a hardcore game is. A Hardcore game is a game that attracts the true fans of a franchise. If there is a very large following of a game it is Hardcore. Mario games are what considered is (should) Hardcore.

#9512 wii u to hardcore for me?

Posted by Dementis on 20 June 2011 - 06:29 AM in Wii U Hardware

I think a true hardcore game attracts not only fans of a franchise, but fans of a genre. Mario is "hardcore" because it is a top-tier platformer.

Hah, Mario is a top-tier platformer because it's one of the few that are actually good. To be honest, I've never heard of a bad platformer, but I've never really heard of that many platform games. It's easy to dominate a genre that has few games that could stand up against you.

#10004 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Dementis on 21 June 2011 - 10:31 PM in Wii U Hardware

Absolute crap. If a website puts up a preorder price they're just putting it up to a price high to make profit from idiot who'd go into the store and pay right there and then but keep it low enough to not seem impossible. No one knows the price, I doubt even Nintendo does yet. It's got a year to go yet.

#16498 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Dementis on 22 July 2011 - 10:50 AM in Wii U Hardware

Well Reggie did say that the Wii U will be affordable but then other sources say it will be expensive.

There are no other sources. If it's not from Nintendo it's not a reliable source. It's a year off even, so not even Nintendo can say.

#10452 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Dementis on 23 June 2011 - 10:45 AM in Wii U Hardware

Well Start saving 'cause it's just a matter of time before the actual price is revealed.

Just so you know, matter of time equals to at least a year, so why is this still being discussed?

#16451 Wii U Price Discussion

Posted by Dementis on 22 July 2011 - 05:56 AM in Wii U Hardware

Oh for god's sake. It's a year off! It's a place holder! There is no way in hell Nintendo would even think of selling it for $500!

#9577 Wii U Microphone

Posted by Dementis on 20 June 2011 - 10:34 AM in Wii U Hardware

That's actually an HDMI port, not USB. Makes me wonder what exactly Nintendo have up their sleeves with this thing.

HDMI? You mean, as in High-Definition Multimedia Interface? What? I don't know what you're implying, that's it's not wireless? It's not a HDMI port. It's most likely for something like a nunchuck.

edit:

On closer inspection I think it is... but what would it be used for?

#10006 Wii U Menu 2.0

Posted by Dementis on 21 June 2011 - 10:35 PM in The Museum

I cannot even see half the things you described. It's not terrible, but it's not as good as the Wii's or 3DS'.

edit:

Sorry, the first time I saw the picture it didn't load fully. But I really prefer the Wii, it looks simpler, even.

#10123 Wii U isn't gonna be much more powerful than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

Posted by Dementis on 22 June 2011 - 08:33 AM in Wii U Hardware

Sparrow and dementis make really good points that deserve attention... The hardware worries are a real red herring, and nintendo is really putting their energy where it matters (ai is a great place to focus the extra processing power, IMO)...

To be honest, I don't really know what it means for them to focus on AI. Does having more extra processing power for AI mean that there can be more characters on the screen?

#10010 Wii U isn't gonna be much more powerful than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

ADBHRTQB.

Don't skim these things. I read an thread on NeoGaf and only one person noticed the whole problem with the thread, and he was ignored.

Miyamoto never said that it wouldn't be much more powerful than the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3, he said it wouldn't be DRAMATICALLY more powerful. It could be more powerful, but not to such an extent that it's say, 50 times as powerful. The console is likely to be at least 10 times as powerful.

EDIT:

And it seems that this post has been ignored as well.

#10148 Wii U isn't gonna be much more powerful than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

Mostly this, but the former as well (more characters on screen).  Currently, the complexity of AI routines are severely hampered by available processing power.  This doesn't much matter in a game like Zelda, which seems to focus on duels rather than big battles with crowds... but I could see it doing great things for a franchise like Pikmin, where enemies (and player-directed AIs) are required to coordinate with/react to one another.  Big AI breakthroughs are a while down the line... but improved NPC coordination/interaction is an improvement we could see right away with a little more processing oomph in the hands of developers.

The reason I asked is because I've never really seen a problem with AIs being unintelligent. Then again, I've never really played an FPS where I presume those things would be important.
