#144560 XL HD Gamepad

Posted by Sargon on 06 December 2012 - 10:46 AM in Wii U Hardware

You do realize that HD resolution is essentially pointless on that size screen, right? The Wii U GamePad screen looks damn good already and there is a point of diminishing returns where higher resolutions are virtually undetectable on small screens.

#142971 What game should I ask for for Christmas?

Posted by Sargon on 03 December 2012 - 08:30 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I would probably get Xenoblade Chronicles while you can. You can always get the newer Wii U games later, but the Xenoblade prices will most likely continue to rise.

#142970 New Eshop titles

Karateka was just released on Steam and is supposed to have a Wii U version too, so hopefully that will be in the eShop soon.

#142967 Rayman Legends Confirmed for February 26th

I should have pre-ordered this from Newegg when they had it incorrectly listed at $49.99.

#142962 Pier Solar HD

Good to know this game's coming to the Wii U. Anyone besides me think this will be an eshop only title?

I'm fairly certain it will be.

Just over 2 days left and only $10,000 short of the Wii U goal. It is going to be really close. If anyone is able to pledge and hasn't done so yet, let's make this happen!

#141772 What's the most expensive video game you've ever bought?

Battlesphere Gold for Atari Jaguar... and I will keep the price to myself. :)

#141553 Wii U RUMORS 2013-2014. Metroid Prime Online Multiplayer, Kirby, and Fatal Frame

Nintendo is hoping to play it’s cards right with new hardware add ons

What other hardware add-ons could they possibly shove down our throats? We already have the Wii Remote, Wii Remote Plus, nunchuk, Wii classic controller, Wii U GamePad, Wii U Pro Controller, Wii Fit balance board, Headsets, External HDD's... I don't understand any strategy that involves pushing more add-ons.

Help bring Pier Solar HD to the Wii U!

The Kickstarter campaign has 3 days remaining and is currently only about $22,000 short of the stretch goal for a Wii U version to be created. It would be great for the Wii U to have this game available. I know I am going to pledge and I hope others will do the same to help get this game made. Here is the link.

#138761 Afterglow wireless headset incompatible? Wii u firmware update?

Posted by Sargon on 26 November 2012 - 07:37 PM in Wii U Hardware

Ok, makes sense.

Nintendo definitely made this way more confusing than it needed to be and I'm afraid that will result in most people not using voice chat at all.

#138749 Afterglow wireless headset incompatible? Wii u firmware update?

Posted by Sargon on 26 November 2012 - 07:23 PM in Wii U Hardware

As I said before.... The Wii U only supports wired headsets. I can't answer why Nintendo didn't put the support in, as that was their decision. But that can easily be changed in a firmware update.

What I'm saying is that there really shouldn't be any difference between how the Wii handles a wired USB headset versus how it handles a wireless USB headset. Either way, it is simply a USB interface, and whether the particular headset is wired or wireless should be transparent to the console. If you were to say that the Wii U doesn't support USB headsets at all, that would make more sense.

#138728 Afterglow wireless headset incompatible? Wii u firmware update?

Posted by Sargon on 26 November 2012 - 06:41 PM in Wii U Hardware

The Wii U currently only supports wired headsets. So if you want to use a PDP Afterglow headset, you will need the wired USB version.

The Afterglow is a universal wireless headset, so how is that possible? It should not require any type of special compatibility with the Wii U console. It should just need an audio input (via Red/White audio cables) and USB power to transmit audio to the headphones. What am I missing?

#138721 Afterglow wireless headset incompatible? Wii u firmware update?

Posted by Sargon on 26 November 2012 - 06:28 PM in Wii U Hardware

I wonder if maybe the Wii U isn't providing enough power? As we have seen with USB hard drives, the Wii U is very stingy with its USB power and requires a Y-cable for many hard drives to work. Could this also be an issue with the Afterglow headset?

#138716 Gold Nunchuck available at Club Nintendo

I would love one of these but 900 coins is a lot. I'll be lucky to get that many in 5 years.

#138009 Please release Dragon Age X in North America!

Posted by Sargon on 25 November 2012 - 11:31 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I must have been in a deep sleep to have missed Dragon Age 3-9.  It feels like just yesterday that I was playing Dragon Age 2!

On a serious note, I do really want to see Dragon Quest X released for North America.

#137389 New Super Mario Bros U vs. New Super Mario Bros Wii?

Posted by Sargon on 24 November 2012 - 09:06 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Just get it, it looks awesome and it probably most likely will be awesome.

I already got it. My question was really is there any reason for me to keep my old copy of New Super Mario Bros around for the Wii, or is NSMBU better in every area so much that I should just sell the old version because it is not worth playing?

#137028 New Super Mario Bros U vs. New Super Mario Bros Wii?

Posted by Sargon on 23 November 2012 - 04:25 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Are these essentially the same game? I have both and just started playing NSMBU and it seems to be all the same levels from the original. Is NSMBU just the same game with some additional levels/features? Is there any reason to keep both?

#136950 List of compatible external USB powered Hard Drives

Buffalo Ministation 500GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Disk Drive: http://www.amazon.co...53543967&sr=8-2

Hoping to use this but I'm probably gonna need a y cable too :(

I stand corrected on my earlier post. I bought and tested this HDD and 1 USB port did not supply enough power. The drive continuously turned off and on and the Wii U was not able to detect it. I don't understand why so many other devices can supply the appropriate amount of power through 1 USB port and the Wii U can't, but that is in fact what happened. I then tested it with a Y-Cable and everything seems to be ok with that. I haven't run anything off the HDD yet, but it detected and formatted ok.

Wow, that was quick.

#135830 IGN gives ME3 on Wii U a 9.5/10

Posted by Sargon on 21 November 2012 - 08:06 PM in Wii U Games and Software

This just shows the pure subjectiveness of reviews. I never base a purchase off a review score, but instead read the fine points of the review to determine whether what the reviewer is describing appeals to me. Some of my all-time favorite games reviewed very poorly but had small details in their reviews that caught my interest.

#135768 Playing original Wii games on the Wii U second screen.

Posted by Sargon on 21 November 2012 - 06:45 PM in Wii U Hardware

No it can't be done and no it won't be possible in the future. Wii mode deactivates all Wii U accessories including the Gamepad.

You don't know what is possible in the future. It is certainly possible for Nintendo to release a software update that changes how Wii mode functions altogether. The question is whether that is where they will dedicate their resources, but to simply say that it won't be possible in the future is rather short-sighted.

I don't think you will need a Y-cable for that HDD. A single USB 2.0 port should be able to provide enough power to run it.

#134981 wii u malfunctions when connected to usb storage

Posted by Sargon on 20 November 2012 - 04:54 PM in Wii U Hardware

Will an external HDD that was designed to use an AC adapter work with a usb y cable instead?

He said it has its own power supply though. Would the Y cable still provide a solution? (half wondering for when I get my own HDD)

There is absolutely no reason to use a USB Y-Cable if the HDD has its own power supply. The power supply provides all the power that it needs.
