#312182 Earthlock Wii U RPG

Posted by Marcus on 21 April 2015 - 08:08 AM in Wii U News

Game looks pretty good from where I'm sitting. I imagine it's quite a task to create a full 3D RPG with these visuals when you're an indie group.

My only worry is that it'll be a bit simplistic. Story wise and gameplay wise. Hope they prove me wrong.

it doesnt look that bad, but surely will not be as good as skies of arcadia

171-Skies_of_Arcadia-5.jpg

the characters on skies of arcadia are badass, these ones kind of feel like meh, i see no determination on their eyes(well maybe the girl passes but her eyes look cold instead of determined)

This could be posted on every new game thread!!

#312172 AngryJoeShow Nintendo Rant

Posted by Marcus on 20 April 2015 - 02:35 PM in General Gaming

I think the issue is not about the ad revenue, but more so that Nintendo wants to protect it's IP and be able to control how it is delivered to the consumer.

I suspect this is likely correct.

I remember my young 5 year old cousin being a huge Mario fan and wanting to watch Mario on youtube because his parents wouldn't buy him a console. I remember them then complaining that they found what seemed like a good lets play video but the commentator started swearing a few minutes in (they're the type that really irrationally care about that).

I think it's probably a similar thing as to why they're not having voice chat in Splatoon. They're aware of what the internet is like and they want to do whatever they can to keep the brand identity constant. Of course I could be wrong. They could just be idiots and think this is better for business. Which it isn't.

#312170 Project CARS reaffirms Wii U release later this year

Posted by Marcus on 20 April 2015 - 02:10 PM in General Gaming

What happened to that other game, fast racing neo?

They said a preview video was coming soon. When you get a teaser for the teaser, it's gotta be a big deal.

#312169 Big Blue FZero Track MK8 (DLC Pack 2)

Posted by Marcus on 20 April 2015 - 02:06 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah, this track is the headliner for me. Screw animal crossing. This is one of the best looking tracks in the whole game. They've really stepped it up for their DLC.

#311979 Black Ops 3 headed to Wii U?

Posted by Marcus on 13 April 2015 - 05:41 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah the comparison with NSMB is pretty fair.

And I'm fine with that. I'll probably always buy that series as long as they leave about 4 year gaps between entries. The problem with series like COD and AC is they're every year. So the fact that they're all so similar is incredibly obvious. I do own BLOPS2 on Wii U though.

#311977 Unity support coming to New 3DS

Posted by Marcus on 13 April 2015 - 05:07 AM in General Gaming

Great news but I wonder why just the New 3DS. That's a big install base they're missing out for the original 3DS. Could be up to 60-70 million by the end of its life. Whereas the New 3DS will probably be less than 10 mil.

#311973 Splatoon download requires just 1,800 MB of disk space

Posted by Marcus on 13 April 2015 - 04:49 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yeah this game looks ideal for DLC. Seems quite likely given how much Nintendo have completely hijacked that bandwagon.

#311727 Level 5's: The Snack World (N3DS/IOS/Android

Posted by Marcus on 08 April 2015 - 05:32 PM in General Gaming

What exactly happened to Wonder Flick, Level 5? Haven't heard anything about that for about 2 years.

#311598 Wii U - Shin Megami Tensei & Fire Emblem Crossover Project Gameplay Trailer

Posted by Marcus on 07 April 2015 - 01:05 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It kinda looks like they took the parts of both series that people dislike the most and brought them together. It's almost the exact opposite of what I was expecting. Graphically quite impressive though. I'd probably only go near something like this if it gets outstanding reviews though cos there's only so much anime I can take.

#311596 Iwata Asks: Xenoblade 3D !

Posted by Marcus on 07 April 2015 - 12:52 AM in General Gaming

Yeah I realised the original had pretty muddy textures too. It still looks lower res to me though. I played the Wii version fairly recently and there was definitely a noticeable difference in the texturing of the buildings in Colony 9. Not as much with the landscapes though, I guess the tiled textures make that stand out less.

Take an example scene with a predetermined camera. Like where Shulk and Reyn leave Colony 9 and it zooms out backwards from Dunban's window so that you see the side of his house. Compare that on the Wii and 3DS. Looks different to me!

#311595 So this Splat Toon thing...

Posted by Marcus on 07 April 2015 - 12:38 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'm definitely getting it. Although I'm skeptical it will remain enjoyable for that long a period. I imagine it'll be the kinda game I play for maybe a week and then only bust out when friends are round. I hope it's successful and reviews well though cos it's a good opportunity for them to start a new series.

#311594 Xenoblade Chronicles 3D - Final Game Stable, Steady Frame Rate

Posted by Marcus on 07 April 2015 - 12:25 AM in General Gaming

Well you seem to be detecting a lot more than I could by looking at it. As far as I could tell, there was just about 5-10m of depth and then everything else was just flattened into line with that 10m distance.

#311593 Zelda Wii u delay = NX launch title?

Posted by Marcus on 07 April 2015 - 12:16 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Bear in mind we still don't know what the NX is. If it's somehow continuous with the prexisting hardware, as one of the images seemed to weakly suggest, it's quite possible the later Wii U games will be used as "launch titles".

I really don't care at this point, I only care that it's coming to the Wii U as that's one of the main reasons I bought the console. The odds of them cancelling it for the Wii U are extremely small I'd say, given how much work they've put into developing it on the platform.

#311592 Splatoon download requires just 1,800 MB of disk space

Posted by Marcus on 07 April 2015 - 12:12 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Nintendo are masters of compression without risking too much on visuals and audio. I have no idea how they do it, they must have an amazing algorithm.

Well in something like Wind Waker, (and Splatoon), I'm guessing their main tool is to reuse the hell out of textures. In Wind Waker that's quite clear.

#311411 Wii U Zelda Map Analysis

They need to give us something to actually analyze!

#310966 Xenoblade Chronicles 3D - Final Game Stable, Steady Frame Rate

Posted by Marcus on 02 April 2015 - 09:02 AM in General Gaming

So far it's looking very good!!

NintendoLife 9/10

Gamespot 8/10

Gamesradar 9/10

Nintendo-insider 9/10

God is a geek 9/10

Mynintendonews 8.5/10

So probably only slightly lower than the metacritic average for the original if things continue in this pattern. Big sigh of relief!!

[Update]

Got my copy today. Really enjoying playing it on handheld so far. The graphical downgrade is noticeable but doesn't ruin it for me.

The 3D however is really terrible! One of the worst implementations in a 3DS game. It seems to add almost no depth at all.

#311139 Rodea Sky Soldier US/EU this fall confirmed! WiiU/3DS

Posted by Marcus on 29 March 2015 - 11:25 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Who cares about metacritic? Just unqualified morons who don't know how to review seriously most of them know nothing of gaming and are just as qualified as a Gamestop Clerk. Numbered reviews are a joke and worthless just as Metacritic. Famitsu has been crap for years now. Never undertsand how people let a worthless number from someone they don't know decide their opinion for them.

What exactly would qualified mean in that context? Of course they're unqualified. They're just average people writing their opinions down. I like numbered averages though (as most people do according to nintendolife's recent poll). Whilst it's obviously not a perfect way to represent a game, it is the quickest when you need to sift through hundreds of games. And when you can take an average, at least you can even out the various idiosyncrasies of individual reviewers. So for me either a user average of a critic average is very practical. Even if it ends up occasionally pointing you at the wrong games, at least it's A process to eliminate a majority. I don't have the time or money to look through them all.

#311138 Legend of Kay Getting Remastered for Wii U , PC

Posted by Marcus on 29 March 2015 - 11:17 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Isn't the soundtrack all kinda J-pop rubbish?

#311137 Iwata Asks: Xenoblade 3D !

Posted by Marcus on 29 March 2015 - 11:16 PM in General Gaming

No, he means screen resolution.

The wii is 480p, thats 400x800

The 3ds 240x800 in 3d, and 240x400 in 2d.

Oh yeah, right you are. I forgot what 480p meant.

Although based on the images I've seen, I think the texture resolution is a bit lower too.

#311091 Wind Waker LEGO Idea set nearly at goal for consideration

Posted by Marcus on 28 March 2015 - 10:17 AM in The Café

Looks really good. But I bet if they're gonna do Nintendo LEGO, they'd do it to coincide with upcoming releases.

#311090 Legend of Kay Getting Remastered for Wii U , PC

Posted by Marcus on 28 March 2015 - 10:14 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I want to but can't. I am not sure I can get Splatoon and XCX CD at the same time whatever the case XCX CD comes first. I wanna see peoples impressions first. Game sounds like a decent romp.

There'll probably be a big gap between those I'm guessing. Especially with Zelda being delayed.

#311089 JRPG or WRPG

Posted by Marcus on 28 March 2015 - 10:12 AM in General Gaming

JRPGs in principle. Recently though WRPGs in practice. (In other words a lot of my favourite games are JRPGs but in recent years WRPGs have been a lot better)

#311088 Iwata Asks: Xenoblade 3D !

Posted by Marcus on 28 March 2015 - 10:10 AM in General Gaming

Iwata

If anything, it's only the resolution.

I assume he means texture resolution there. Isn't the 3DS screen res fairly similar to the wii?

#310965 Rodea Sky Soldier US/EU this fall confirmed! WiiU/3DS

Posted by Marcus on 25 March 2015 - 07:10 AM in Wii U Games and Software

This just got reviewed in Famitsu. Not the best scores:

Rodea: The Sky Soldier (Wii U/3DS) – 8/7/8/7

Bear in mind, they do tend to score quite highly. I'm guessing this'll translate to around 70% on metacritic, but we'll have to see.

#310952 Xenoblade Chronicles 3D - Final Game Stable, Steady Frame Rate

Posted by Marcus on 25 March 2015 - 03:18 AM in General Gaming

I think the addition to make the game 3D as well will help immersion and make up for any quality that may have been lost.

Yeah, probably. Although I really wish all games with 3D offered a graphical improvement when the 3D is turned off. Ironfall was great in that respect. 30 fps with 3D on. 60fps with it off. Monster Hunter 4 added anti-aliasing when the 3D was off.
