#272607 Sold my wii u

Posted by Happy Monk on 15 February 2014 - 12:12 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm foaming at the mouth because of rabies, not Mario Kart 8 or Smash Bros or X or Bayonetta 2.

You have to admit though that the Wii U lacks that killer app that will get gamers foaming from the mouth.

#272603 Bayonetta 2

Bayonetta 2 looks amazing in every department. How can I not get something with the word "Fimbleventor" in it?

#272597 Sold my wii u

Posted by Happy Monk on 15 February 2014 - 11:57 AM in Wii U Hardware

At this point in time, the Wii U is actually one of my favourite consoles. It has so many good games already, with more coming.

It's fair enough to buy a PS4 though, that thing has Octodad: Dadliest Catch - the best thing on the console.

#272465 Giveaway: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Club Nintendo Code!

Donkey Kong taught me how to respond when a banana is crushed - destroy everyone!

#272228 Nintendo Direct Discussion Thread

Posted by Happy Monk on 13 February 2014 - 03:50 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Europe never got any of these indie titles in the direct it was all 3DS basically.

Also this is a WII U forum. We don't all have 3DS.

We got plenty on Wii U: Smash Bros (so much hype), new X info, Bayonetta 2, awesome Donkey Kong trailer, even better mario kart 8 trailer, NES Remix 2 and Child of Light. It was a good direct, but it didn't have any new "big" announcements like Hyrule Warriors so people complain. I for one will be spending time buying and playing eShop games on my 3DS thanks to the awesome sale (when I'm not doing the insane amount of work I have at the moment).

#271552 Nintendo learn a lesson from Sega..... Sonic Boom

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 02:56 PM in Wii U Hardware

RESISTENCE.... I expected this much so cool let's talk. First I did not say this game was guaranteed to be a lock on GOTY. What makes this game exciting is the new take on something old. It funny how much was ignored from the original post. They did not get some brand new developers who don't know much about the genere. The developers one worked on the canceled sonic color and the other on Jak and dexter and uncharted. These guy know 3d platforming and brining quality titles to the table. The most exciting thing about this game is POTENTIAL. I think if you have success sometimes you can get used to just rinse, wash, repeat. This show Sega is not afraid to mix it up and try something new... not just from their own prospective but allowing someone new to come in and give it a shot someone with "experience". Look guys it really isn't looking good for WiiU I mean mK8 should ship some consoles but the WiiU is what it is a great system that is not going to sell well. I think now would be a perfect time for Nintendo to take some chances and change the direction of their company, their software lineup, and the perception people have about them.

I just had a thought. If SEGA's new approach to Sonic is so good, maybe it will shift Wii Us anyway.

Joking aside, there is Hyrule Warriors. If that's not branching out I don't know what is. Another Nintendo owned game is LEGO City Undercover. I don't want Nintendo to change their software lineup, that's why I own a Wii U and 3DS. Adding to it would be alright though.

#271551 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 02:51 PM in Wii U Games and Software

People are not missing the point and your approach to this is not how I as a consumer look at things.  Missing a launch date is one thing, but perpetually missing dates indicates lack of true support.  I'm a consumer, not a sheep.  Take what you can get is not something I do.

No, what I'm saying is that people decide not to buy the game if it's delayed, will prove the point that nobody wants the games on the system. Then people complain that the games aren't coming while it is them not buying them in the first place. The fact that it's got delayed shouldn't make you stop buying it, it just means you have to wait a little longer.

#271536 Nintendo learn a lesson from Sega..... Sonic Boom

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 12:10 PM in Wii U Hardware

Coming from someone who hasn't played a Sonic game. I'll say that Sonic Boom looks cool and better then Lost World imo, but I kinda get a cheesy licensed game feel from it. Will probably be the first Sonic game I buy though. I still like the way it looks.

Sonic's been good since Colours, I suggest you play Colours, Generations and Lost World. Each one is a good game.

I think Boom looks odd, and too different from the Sonic I know. I am open to it though, just as I am every Sonic game.

#271535 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 12:07 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I thought you did that 2 years ago.

You think we're getting a better game.
We're getting a game they can claim as a separate SKU to delay DLC until the desire for it is exactly 0.
They want excuses not to invest in the platform.

I'm not saying we'll get a better game than the other platforms, I'm saying the version we get will be better with the delay than it would be without.

I couldn't care less about DLC (other than batman, grrr).

I dunno about excuses not to invest in the platform, haven't people been giving them reasons already? If anything, this shows Ubisoft is still willing to put a game out on the Wii U, even if it means a delay - which is more than we can say with many other publishers.

#271524 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 11:04 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Ditto. If they do then Ubi goes on my bottem well carp list. They are already in my naughty list and I would really like to support child of light.

If you want Child of Light, buy it. People not buying games because of annoyance that games don't come out, get delayed etc... are missing the point. If you stop buying their games, they will stop making their games for the console you own. You need to show support by purchasing their games, all you do when refusing to buy a game based on the company that made it is proving their point.

Also: Child of Light looks great!

Bring on the rest of the review scores, which will be good.

#271522 120+ WiiU indie titles

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 10:59 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Some of the games are not yet confirmed for Wii U, Wii U support rests on Kickstarter Stretch goals (La Mulana 2) and Tadpole Treble failed to reach its Kickstarter stretch goal.

Other than that, Armikrog, 90s Racer and Scram Kitty look great.

#271519 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 10:56 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Why would a delay make you cancel pre-orders? People deciding that they will not buy a game because of a delay or because of "ethical" reasons are feeding the company's distrust. If you don't buy their games, they won't make more. The smartest move is to show support, I mean, a delay is a delay, if it means we get a better game as a result do a few months really matter?

This is why I still plan on buying the game for my Wii U, also because it looks interesting.

#271516 Nintendo learn a lesson from Sega..... Sonic Boom

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 10:52 AM in Wii U Hardware

So Nintendo need to copy SEGA in making a beloved character with a strong fanbase look strange so it can 'appeal to the Western gamers'?

CryEngine 3 does not mean good game, anyone can use the engine if they get the rights.

I never liked sonic... never understood the draw to him or the games. Sonic Boom will be the first sonic game on a home console (got generations for my son 3ds) that i purchase. What Sega are trying to do is connect with the western audience. I feel Nintendo needs to do this with one of their IP's (Starfox, Zelda, new ip, shooter). I dont think you do this trying to hit a home run (10 million in sales out the gate). You do it to show you can step out your box and do something that you dont usually do. Sega got a VERY experienced Dev team to make it, got it running on one of the best engines for pushing tech, and I praise them for that. This is what people have been asking Nintendo to "try" for years. Give us something new. Who in here would not play a starfox, metroid, or new exclusive shooter on Wii U built on cryengine, made by an "experienced western dev? It would just be to have something new. Another thing is Sega has their main sonic team in tack working on a mainline sonic game this game is like a spin-off of sorts and I think its pretty cool what they are doing. DAY 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone on this forum would play a new Starfox, Metroid or exclusive shooter on Wii U - this is a forum dedicated to the Wii U. Sure, Nintendo could open up to other studios (which they have always done to some extent anyway), but really, the Western gaming world works on one word: 'cool'.

Nintendo does not have a game that would be labelled as 'cool' to non-fans anymore: the closest we've got is Zelda and to a very much lesser extent, Metroid. What's deemed cool these days is Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty and FIFA: Nintendo gets one of the three and no one cares. What Nintendo need to then perhaps does lie in your argument, a new game catered to the boring tastes of the West - it could be made in-house or by an outside studio (that really doesn't matter).

It's just a bit silly that you're basing this on Sonic Boom, which hasn't come out yet - no one knows how well the game will perform, it could sell little to nothing or perform quite well, my guess is around the same as Sonic Lost World - which is fine.

I'm still getting it. Unless they cancel it later...

#271205 The 1983 crash Dejavu

Eh. There's always been clones after clones - kinda how the industry rolls. One company makes a game that really does well, everyone else copies it.

#271200 New Wii U game to be shown in April

They're going to surprise us with the announcement of a F-Zero/Star Fox crossover.

#270470 Wii U 3rd party support

Posted by Happy Monk on 04 February 2014 - 09:33 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I've already got Lego City Undercover, Need For Speed, Assassin's Creed 3 + 4, Zombi U, Tekken, Ninja Gaiden 3, Splinter Cell, Call of Duty Black Ops II, Arkham City + Origins, Sonic Lost World + All Stars Racing Transformed, Deus Ex, Rayman Legends and Tank Tank Tank. Hoping to get Darksiders 2 and Injustice soon.

I've been good to third parties and I suggest other people follow suit.

#270246 Mergers and Acquisitions

Posted by Happy Monk on 03 February 2014 - 10:00 AM in Wii U Hardware

I'd honestly just consider buying the company for the IPs and let EAD or someone in-house make the games.

Pretty sure a few of the people from the N64 games would consider coming back if Nintendo held the reins again.

Indeed. A new Nintendo-made Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark and a new Blast Corps would be fantastic.

#270243 DKCTR TV Commercial

This is actually a decent advert. I wonder if we'll get one like this here in the UK... Probably not.

#270197 Mergers and Acquisitions

Nintendo should buy Platinum, get them to make F-Zero and Starfox. Sega would be good but would never happen, as with Capcom.

#269878 Anyone play smash bros competitively or plan to with 4?

Posted by Happy Monk on 01 February 2014 - 11:15 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Nah. I'm not exactly the competitive type. The most online multiplayering I do is with friends (kinda rare since I'm actually kinda shy) or for PS3 trophies. :T

Will definitely get a lot of mileage out of local multiplayer/trophy unlocking in the games though. Maybe Nintendo will do another Club Nintendo thing where you buy both the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game and you get $20-30 eShop credit. :T

Another thing where you get $20-30 eShop credit? Never had anything like that in the UK (other than getting a fourth 3DS game for free when buying three).

#269852 Anyone play smash bros competitively or plan to with 4?

I don't really have any plans to play Smash Bros. competitively, I find the scene annoyingly self-righteous.

#269847 Rumor: Up To 14 New Characters Coming To Super Smash Bros. 4?

Posted by Happy Monk on 01 February 2014 - 05:38 AM in General Gaming

36 characters is not enough. The quote from Sakurai about the amount of characters actually reads as followed:

“It isn’t a matter of ‘if the next game has 50 characters, that’ll be enough.’ There is a certain charm to games that have huge casts of playable characters, but they tend to have issues with game balance and it becomes very difficult to fine-tune each character and have them all feel distinctive.

“In terms of quantity, we’ve probably already reached the limit of what’s feasible. I think a change of direction may be what’s needed.”

This suggests that if anything Sakurai is thinking of 50 characters, perhaps being the limit. The new game will have more characters than Brawl. At the very least, I think we will have the character roster of Brawl, with a few newcomers - the characters confirmed already seem to back this judgement up. Toon Link in particular, but Lucario's announcement yesterday made me think back to this quote of Sakurai:

“Whether it’s a minor character or a character that is one of the most highly skilled and most played, if that character is removed from the game, the people who live for that character in Smash Bros. are going to have their feelings hurt.”

Sakurai is very wary of getting rid of characters, mix that in with the quote above of 50 characters (I know slightly taken out of context), and I think we'll be seeing at least 45 characters in the new Smash Bros.
