Hi guys, can the wii u have more than one gamepad connected? I want to take my gamepad to my friends place tonight and was reading an article that when the wii u came out it wasn't possible. Is it possible now?

If not, shame on nintendo.

Nope not yet, not that it matters since there aren't any games that use two pads simultaneously. And honestly, I doubt there will be one at this point.

Nintendo has said WiiU can support up to two Gamepads at once however no game has yet to use it and we still can't buy a WiiU gamepad in stores because of it.

Nope. I'm not sure they will ever have a game that utilizes two.. Maybe towards the very end of its lifespan when they need something to spice it up.

I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect :)

Shame on Nintendo because it doesn't offer something that they've been saying since the beginning it doesn't offer? What exactly is the shame?

Shame on Microsoft that the Xbone can't use more than one Kinect at once?

Do you think that having even one gamepad going is a simple task, and that having two would just be cake for the hardware to handle?

Wii Motes are pretty inexpensive in fact dirt cheap if bought second hand.

They also announced it at E3 that year during the conference.

So you'd rather spend $100 for a Gamepad rather than $50 for a few Wiimotes/Classic Controllers?

They claimed they were working on a firmware update to unlock 2 player gamepads before the control was released.

No, i doubt Nintendo will change this either, there will need to be some games that support two gamepads first & the games are lacking in numbers anyway, other than Smash & Bayonetta 2 there is nothing.

I'm gonna assume his friend has a Wii U. So they both have Gamepads.

If you both have a Wii U you can always take your Wii U around there and play it online with you both using your own console and Gamepad.  Unless if course only one of you has the game.  But seriously, are there ANY Wii U owner that doesn't have Mario Kart 8?

Does Mario Kart 8 have LAN support even?  I have been too busy with Watch Dogs to check.

They said they would do that after they utilised the NFC chip which they are only just getting around to now, with Amiibo.

I am baffled that there isn't a easily hotfixed option yet where the 2nd Wii U gamepad's screen is simply disabled and it acts as a standard controller so the OP doesn't have to run out and buy another controller even though he already has the original one that came in the box. First time I've ever heard of this situation with a console, grats Nintendo on being a special cookie.

This situation doesn't really apply to me anymore since me and my friends just LAN it up with multiple screens or just play together online but I feel ya OP.

When I first bought my Wii U, I was slightly disappointed in this- but for the most part it's a non issue.  It would be cool, but in reality, it's far from essential, especially since I usually play alone.  IMO, this will be a feature for the next console- that and the "gamepad" for that generation will also have more tablet like features and have true portability.

It would be cool to see dual gamepads. But from what I've heard the console really has frame rate problems supporting 2 of them. And as expensive as they are, almost nobody will spend money on an extra one so I wouldn't expect a dual gamepad feature to be supported in the future.
