Reggie: A Physical Option Will Always Be Available

JUNE 22, 2015
/ BY ELIA PALES

In a recent interview with Polygon, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime spoke about the future of Nintendo as a company. First a foremost, Fils-Aime cemented that Nintendo is solely a gaming company, and is always looking towards the future in terms of gaming. Moreover, Reggie reiterated Nintendo’s commitment to the physical gaming space, saying that the physical option would “always” be there.

I do think that consumers find a sense of security in having the physical thing, and given that, I think the option of the physical thing always needs to be there. How that manifests itself in our future development we’ll see. But it is an observation based on sales whether it’s on our 3DS or Wii U, the wide range of digital sales is pretty striking.”

Do you prefer physical games over digital ones, or do you like a downloadable option? Let us know in the comments below!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing... and Fatal Frame? Looks like he is talking out of his butt a bit. He should of said the "majority" of games.

Because it cannot be an "option" if there isn't one. lol

Nintendo will most likely be the last to enter 100% digital. I don't mind as long as I can choose.

Is there even much demand for any of the big three to go "all digital"? I don't know anyone who downloads many full retail games digitally.

Most of my friends download now. They also can share the games if they have 2 xbox one for example. Which I hope Nintendo will do incase I buy a second Wii U. And drop the region lock. All digital is many years away I'm afraid.

All digital with limited internet speeds in many states and countries I am glad all digital is not here yet. I am physical all the way. I mourn the day we are 100% digital in gaming.

For me when given the option it will be in the words of Olivia Newton herself

5 or 6 years ago people thought we were all going to be downloading music and that physical albums would be dead by now. But there is still demand for physical albums, just look at the resurgence in popularity of vinyl.

so I hope that physical games never die
