Does anyone know if the Elgato will record the Wii U game play? I would assume it would since the Wii U uses an HDMI cord. But I wanted to make sure before I upgraded from my old PVR.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. Don't take that as a fact though.

Just basic thinking would say yes. Shouldnt it record any input?
It looks like it uses the RCA jack which the wii u will be able to use but i believe your have to buy the cable or use the one from the wii.

I think so.. the only reason I ask was because I know the Wii U uses a HDMI cable and the Elgato has a port for that. My old PVR didn't support HDMI

http://support.elgat...ratingconfirm=1 here's the official answer anyway.

The Wii U has not yet been released, so we have not yet tested it with Elgato Game Capture HD. We do not yet know if the HDMI output of the Wii U will be unencrypted.

We do know that the Wii U can use a Component adapter from Nintendo, which means that there is an extremely great chance it will work with Elgato Game Capture HD's Component input, with no additional modifications needed. Of course, we will have to test this before certifying Wii U use withElgato Game Capture HD.

Maybe it could, and there is a possibility that it can't.

IIRC, the 360 and PS3 has their HDMI output set up in a way that if it's connected to a capture card or PVR, the recorded image would be scrambled. It was tested on a Black Magic HD PVR though, but I'm sure that also applies to Elgato.

Just hope and pray that Nintendo allows the recording of gameplay via HDMI, or else you'll have to stick with gross 1080/720i.

Over HDMI? I doubt it, most HDMI sources now are usually encrypted with HDCP, so the only other way would be to use component out from the Wii U and into the game capture/PVR.

Well, I'm sure the OP already figured out the answer, but yes. The Elgato Game Capture HD does, indeed, work with the Wii U.

I do not have an Elgato, but there are many people who have used it, such as David from Wii U and 3DS blog.
