Is it wrong to have already measured the distance your Wii U gamepad can go out of the room where your Wii U is? :P

Alright that sucks I thought it was farther so I can't go from the family room to the bath room.

i'm presuming you can go a bit further than 8 metre's but it won't be the best performance. I'm thinking it will be playable up to maybe 14 meter's (45 feet) We'll have to wait and see.
