Is there a way in Pokemon games to know/be reminded of what you're supposed to do next?

Ok. What do I do if I am in the middle of a dungeon and need to get out? I am in the mine and was doing okay until Pliplup, my only good pokemon against the rock ones, was defeated in a battle against a trainer. now I'm stuck with no pokemon to fight against rock :( None of my other 5 can do any damage against them...
