if the photo is too large you can crop it at the avatar change screen ....here is a photo of the avatar change screen http://i.imgur.com/VQqJ1rC.png ......to get to the change screen move the cursor over your profile pic on your profile page http://i.imgur.com/4SKOjnZ.png

Go to your profile, simply hover your cursor over your avatar, and click it and upload the photo you want. It has to be 100kb or smaller.
