Neil Postman's Book, Amusing Ourselves To Death, describes how aspects of our society such as religion, news, politics, and education has turned into entertainment through Television. The book was written in 1984, when Television was just beginning to become popular, but I was surprised to see how much of the stuff he claims can be applied to our society to this day. While it only addresses television in the book, it could also provoke thoughts about how other technology affect our society. Like how social media and cell phones are destroying the quality of human interaction.

So, my question is: Do you think that technology has the capability of ruining our society?

Do you think that Television is turning aspects of our culture (politics, religion, education) into entertainment? Why or why not?

Aldous Huxley Predicted that what we love will ultimately ruin us. In that novel the citizens became apathetic, hypnotized, zombies that relied on technology.  Could technology be that thing that we hold so dearly that ends up ruining our society?

I would think that it has the possibility to if we start to rely too heavily on technology. I think that as technology evolves more and gets more advanced it has even more of a chance of taking over our lives. We already rely heavily on technology and are becoming very dependent on it to complete daily activities. I would also agree that Television is turning aspects of our culture into entertainment.

Tech only ruin lives if it given to the wrong people (The Stupid,The Evil and The Ones who hate societies but don't create anything useful). It's like the saying "A computer is only as smart as the user inputting commands in it". Social Media is ruining our society more than tech.

I was asking if it has the possibility of ruining our society as a whole, not individual lives. Just for clarification.

Yer I know. Many lives form up societies. Sorry if you feel I used the wrong term. :(

So this is why you asked it, and yes, it has turned many aspects of our lives into entertainment, such as religious events with Veggie Tales.
