They announced it in the February Nintendo Direct.
How many games would be ruined if they didn't have analog triggers? The only ones I can think of are racing games.

The rule of thumb is actually 10 times the power, my mistake.
Again, the Wii U could easily emulate GCN games since it is far greater than 10 times the power.
this is not a technical hurdle by any means.
It is a business one.
And considering the rehash of GCN games on Wii U, there may be more and Nintendo may not want to compete against themeselves...

don't you want to play new games ?
I never owned a gamecube.
I've never been able to play mario sunshine or luigi's mansion for more than 10 minutes each, so they'd be new to me.
I'd prefer some Wii U games, but since they're remaking a gamecube game like windwaker, I'd rather then take that effort and throw it into an emulator if it's possible.

Wait... Why is that? Thats really weird... And isn't the Wii U three times more powerful than the GameCube?Emulation (how virtual console works) requires at least 3 times the CPU power of the system you're emulating.
Maybe next time.

How so? When you lightly pressed on the trigger it allowed you to move, and when you click it you stood still. It wasn't the pressure sensitivity, it was the clickable triggers. That could easily be done with the four shoulder buttons: ZR could be light spray and R could be hard spray.

I... did not think of that. So I guess it could still work.
