If the Wii had one strength it was family appeal. Wii Sports, Wii Fit & Mario Kart were the key titles convincing parents this worthwhile purchase. Safe, fun, cheep, these may not be the key motivation for the kind of people on chat on a Wii U messageboard, but families were the target demographics of the Wii.

What worries me more than 3rd party developers and mind blowing graphics is if the Nexbox or PS4 capture the family market...then Nintendo's got problems.

The Famicom was a portmanteau of Family Computer for a reason.

I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect :)

Why did you make 2 threads of the exact same thing?

It was probably an accident.

I'm a red blooded American Capitalist, but you should read the Communist Manifesto. It's a good read. I disagree with it entirely, but it's interesting. Gamers of the world unite!

Anyways, I think Nintendo will release Wii Sports U this holiday season to try and get the attention of the family market. And when does WiiU Fit come out??

Well I think Nintendo want to attract tons of non-gamers again with their Wii Fits etc, because it'll sell consoles for them, sure it wont do them any good, because the people buying consoles solely for Wii Fit wont buy third party games, but it'll look impressive on their statistics for third parties to put games on the Wii U :P

The double thread was a technical thing.

Nintendo has work to do plain and simple. Step it up sink or swim. E3 will reveal if they were serious about getting that core player back.

Well, the family market is definitely alot stronger than the hardcore market, i mean the Wii sold 88 million units. Ubisoft doesn't seem to want to abandon a company since Just Dance sold WAY more copies on Wii than anything else.

Yeah, the Wii U will capture the family market at least. When developers stop making Wii games. Families will have to start buying their games on Wii U, which shouldn't be too long. But then again, the Wii has a huge install base, so the multiplats for Wii probably won't end too soon.

With Nintendo Land Ninty are looking to develop the tastes of the family market by introducing them to different, more complex games such as Pikmin and Zelda. Pikmin and Zelda themselves are complex genres which are still casual gamer friendly. NSMBU at launch builds a platform (pun intended!) for a Mario 3D U titles to build upon. LEGO city undercover is a essentially an family friendly Open World game.

In this respect Nintendo have covered themselves as long as they can force the price down.

What worries me is if NexBox comes in a low launch price with kinnect as standard it could be very competitive.
