So to those under 18 do you play 18 cert games?

Those like me being the parent do your children play older age games?

Only asking as loads of kids at my daughters school play cod and my daughter is pestering me to play Tomb raider.

Uh...well, there is a limit. It all depends upon the maturity of the player. I mean, honestly, I wouldn't give CoD, Tomb Raider, Left 4 Dead 2 to a 10-12 year old.

This is really a question that only the parent of the child can answer. It depends on what you want your kid seeing/hearing/doing in these games.

As long as the game isn't rated AO (I'm not even sure if they have that rating anymore), I see no problem with letting kids play a game like COD. Most have options to turn off gore/swearing/etc.

The ratings are just guidlines, it's up to you.

Personally, I think the stuff shown in videogames is very immature anyway, so suits children very well.

I wouldn't let an 11 year old play tomb raider though, because they're going to die and see those death scenes.
12 year olds though, I'd let them play anything except online.

Well, they do still have that rating. It's just that those games never get released officially.

I'm 14 and I do buy 18+ games, but I wouldn't blame it on my parents.

Personally I'm trying for a baby right now, and I'm going to judge their mental maturity to weather they're ready for age ratings above their age, I'll probably own the game so I'll know if the content is appropriate.

But no I'm not going to buy 18 rated games for my child

Yeah all the above makes sense, i currently play the games and sort of self judge them, the one thing i hate is bad language in games, Half the problem is that they catch a glimps of a game i'm playing and then it gets talked about at school and other kids are playing it already grrr.

Nice one,good luck!

I saw some of the tomb raider death scenes, I wouldn't be letting a 12 year old watch them. As for myself, pretty dang awesome, but wow, some of them are pretty graphic

When I was 10 I was playing tomb raider and it was awesome swan-diving and breaking lara's neck, or watching the final boss smash her bones. I've not played the reboot, but I fear the title has become more mature and realistically violent?

There are death scenes in some PG and 12A rated films and off the top of my head there are no seriously gruesome death scenes in tomb raider. I see no problem in an 11-12 year old playing them, but as others have said it is all down to their level of maturity. I've played 18 rated games an watched movies since I was around 12 and I turned out fine. IMO it's a myth that seeing violence in the media as a child has a profound effect on someone in later life.

I was playing 18 rated games when I was around 9-10 started watching when I was like 4-5. I would say it's fine but really it depends on the kid. Also any sex stuff will just fly straight over their head (at least it did for me) So I don't really think it's a problem to play games rated 15 and up when you're younger but like I said it will also depend on the kid

Well in the UK it is against the law, the question is if your daughter wanted to play a 18 rated game would you let her watch a 18 rated film ?

Tomb Raider is pretty graphic & some people have said it is borderline torture porn http://www.realsg.co...rture-porn.html

I myself do not believe that there is a link between violence & gaming, but i have seen too many parents in game shops buying games for children that are clearly underage.

Where is the line, Sniper Elite V2 is rated 16 is that a ok game ?

tbh i don't care if they play 18 games singleplayer but when you play them online screeching at the top of your voices then i get a bit peed off.

It's completley up to you, in my opinion though they are there for a reason, I'm going to make sure that when I have kids they do stick to the rating.

???? I wouldn't want children watching that? it's a video game! If you're going to put that level of violence in a game, it needs to be clear to the parents what exactly is in the game. I personally think the rating system is just too vague. M for mature (violence, coarse language, etc) That doesn't mention, the protagonist might her throat impaled by a spike and flail her arms around while you watch helplessly. My kids won't be watching that

I personally don't have any children, but if I did I wouldn't be buying them M rated games. I don't like a lot of violence in video games so I stay away from that type of thing. Same goes for movies. People are so desensitized to violence that people will just respond it to as "meh". Granted it's all fake, but the fact that people have no emotional response to that sort of thing kinda bothers me. But that's a discussion for another time and place.

Maybe I can answer your question with an experience I had as a child. When I was about 10 my dad was watching the movie "The Godfather". It's a pretty graphic movie blah blah blah. I wanted to watch it with my father but he wouldn't allow me due to the violence. I sat in the room anyway like a stupid kid and ended up seeing the horse head in the bed. Well that traumatized me at that point in time. Of course my experience won't be the same as others, but it's possible that even at such a young age, something as fake as a horse head in a bed could potentially effect a young child. Imagine having a ten year old interact with a violent scenario, I really can't see any positive effect what so ever.

Just because your child pesters you to do something, and a bunch of young kids are playing COD, doesn't mean you have to do the same thing. It's our job as adults to manage the well being of our offspring. There were things I wanted to do but my parents wouldn't allow me to do, in the long run, they were right and they took care of me like good parents should.

Sorry this post turned out to be so long.
