Jonathan Winters, the wildly inventive actor and comedian who appeared in such films as "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" and "The Loved One" and played Robin Williams' son on the TV show "Mork & Mindy," has died. He was 87.

Winters died Thursday evening of natural causes at his home in Montecito, California, according to business associate Joe Petro III.

Winters was known for his comic irreverence, switching characters the way other people flick on light switches. His routines were full of non sequiturs and surreal jokes. Williams, in particular, often credited him as a great influence.

"First he was my idol, then he was my mentor and amazing friend," tweeted Williams. "I'll miss him huge. He was my Comedy Buddha. Long live the Buddha."

Jonathan Winters has died.

He was a fantastic actor, truly amazing. He could play any role with great ease.I'm sadden to hear about his passing, and he appeared in the Twilight Zone.

The three videos above are the episode he appeared in "A Game of Pool". It's probably one of the greatest Twilight Zone episodes in the original series. I enjoyed it because it's just two guys playing a game of pool discussing life philosophy/sociology. I'm going to view it again later on tonight.

A great man has died, RIP.

Jonathan Winters was one of the few great classic actors of his time still around. Even though I am only 28, I grew up on the classics. One of my favorites is "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World " , with Winters of course. We can't forget his great Twilight Zone appearances either. R.I.P.
