First of all I've never played an online match in my life, mainly because online play sucks, mainly due to the lack of support for people new to online games you either get booted by people hating on newbies or abused, so for me there's no point in me ever playing an online game ever unless it's with my friends.

But:

Why are people so annoyed at campers?

Logically they're the ones doing the sensible stuff in war. Waiting, out of line of sight, striking when the enemy is close and vulnerable.

It's really those who go around all guns blazing which are the stupid ones.

Camping is not realistic or sensible.  In "real war," people attack and defend.  If everyone sat around camping all the time, no objective would ever be completed.

Because it's a competitve game and camping can sometimes give you the upper edge. Think about that and it's clear to see why some people hate them.

i go back and forth with this. obviously it's cheap but some players still come out on top while others are camping, so if it's fair game to camp then... it's fair game?

The people who hate campers are the rushers. Campers rely on tactics (mainly, surprise! I'm sitting on the floor in this random corner!) while rushers rely on superior reflexes. Both can be really annoying.

Example: camper

You go into a room, get killed. See the killcam, yup, he was lying down in the corner. You go back to kill him, die. killcam? lying in the....other corner!!!! arrrg! ^^ you go back, throw a grenade.

Example: rusher

You run down a hallway, rusher comes around the corner and immediately lays down while accurately shooting you the whole time. You run around another corner, rusher jumps, then lays down while accurately shooting you the whole time. You lie down at the end of the hallway facing said corner, and camp the rusher ^^

It really depends on the game.  I personally don't care for that crap in most games but am fine with it in TF2, as you can still drive away the other players or uber one to take out the several sentries near spawn (not Heavy, go with Soldier or Demo, they are typically better players).

I really don't care how "realistic" it is, I play game to have fun.

The people who get annoyed at camping tend to be the ones who run around like chickens with there heads cut offand have a fit when they get bush whacked. It's rather funny actually.

I hate campers, why spend hundreds of dollars on a console and then more again on games to just sit in one spot. Its not being tactical it's being a f(_)ck wit.

I run around all the time, I don't like to camp for more than a minute or two and I'm not fond of campers, though I understand why they do it.  It doesn't really bother me so much at this point, every team needs it's snipers.  I'm not big on having the greatest KDR ever, so I don't mind trying to out maneuver the other team my moving around.  Even though I know I'm going to die a lot, which is why I change tactics when I play TDM, I want to end up with a KDR at least over 1.0, but on objective games I could care less as long as I'm able to defend or capture ground.

The only time I see camping as a viable option is when you are using a sniper rifle, and even then you don't really wanna stay in the same spot for too long. If someone camps with a shotgun or automatic weapon on the other hand...

I've never understood the whole "why spend money on a game just to sit around doing nothing!!!!!"  argument. People wouldn't be camping if they really didn't like anything about it. My buddy really enjoys the super slow take his time, wait around the corner, lock down a building type gameplay, but he'd rather play that style on a game like COD, he's not a fan of battlefield. Is he "wasting" his money? Heck no! He has a blast. As we get older, I've noticed my friends and I gameplay slows down, we talk more over skype to each other while playing (not strategy, just about daily stuff) and we use COD (or whatever fps) as a casual stress reliever. If someone camps, who cares? It's just a game.
